- In the hills. A good, prolonged view of a pair of Goshawk was half-decent. Always nice to see them after they have ‘gone quiet’. Also 7 Painted Lady and 4 Red Admiral heading NE. #birdingWales
- Another 50km around the levels this AM. Couldn’t get out till post-HT so not much doing at Goldcliff, did get newly hatched broods of Ringed Plover and Redshank, and a decent sized survivor of a Lapwing chick. #gwentbirding #birdingWales #lowcarbonbirding #birdingbybike
- Forgot to mention, had a couple of male Long-horned Bee at Goldcliff. #beesbybike #bees
- Up in the hills again. The Crossbills are gathering up, max flock size of 40 so far. Also Painted Lady. #birdingWales
- More Gropper action in the hills today, including decent views of a singing male and a pair in suitable nesting habitat. Three singing Whinchat weren’t too shoddy either. #birdingWales
- A 50km circuit of the eastern levels this afternoon with a quickish stop at Magor Marsh. Saw nothing of note. Luckily, didn’t burn any carbon whilst seeing bugger all, so that can go down as a nil-nil draw. #gwentbirding #birdingWales #birdingbybike #lowcarbonbirding
- Petition alert. Coal mining dressed up as ‘coal tip reclamation’. Climate and local biodiversity impacts. Feel free to register your disapproval here >> www.change.org/p/halt-the-p... #Bedwas #Trethomas
- Goldcliff Pools over this evening’s HT: 105+ Whimbrel, Sanderling, Grey Plover, 15 Barwit, Ruff, 76+ Ringed Plover, Spoonbill, 2 Garganey, Wigeon, Mallard x Gadwall hybrid, 7 Teal, 9 Common Gull and 3 BH Gull. #gwentbirds #birdingWales
- Oops, forgot to mention,… also Greenshank. #gwentbirds #birdingWales
