- As a tariff accelerationist, I'm glad we touched the stove but I'm also glad we didn't burn the house down. A huge amount of damage has been done to Trump and to the economy, and I didn't really have the stomach to root for things to get even worse (I live here too).

- Because these things operate on a lag, per OP post. The actual drops in supply from the tariff increases were always going to take weeks to filter in (and are now locked in by the last 5 weeks of reduced shipping volumes), same with the impacts of suddenly trying to reverse course.
- The impacts of supply chain disruptions/tariffs, even after backing down, will be worse than COVID supply chain issues, less bad than "post-apocalyptic survival state", and enough to anger the Treatlers, which will tank the GOP in the midterms/bloody Trump's nose for authoritarian gambit purposes.
