- Born 13 May 1907, Daphne du Maurier was an English playwright and author. Many of her works have been adapted into films, including three Alfred Hitchcock movies. - Born 13th May 1943, singer Mary Wells. She helped to define the emerging sound of Motown in the early 1960s and had a No. 1 hit on both sides of the Atlantic with "My Guy". She died in 1992, aged just 49. #MaryWells #Motown

- Born 12 May 1942 - rock and roll singer-songwriter and actor Ian Dury. His No.5 album 'New Boots And Panties!!' spent 90 weeks on the UK chart and was my second favourite LP of 1977. His lyrics were inspired genius. Sadly, he died on 27th March 2000, aged only 57. #IanDury
- Born 12 May 1928, composer, songwriter, record producer, pianist & singer Burt Bacharach. He wrote many classic songs including, 'Close To You', '24 Hours From Tulsa' & 'Make It Easy On Yourself'. He won 2 Oscars for the score to the film Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid. #BurtBacharach
- Released 11th May 1970, "Live At Leeds" by the Who. It is the band's only live album that was recorded with the classic line-up of Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, John Entwistle & Keith Moon. - Phil Silvers was born 11 May 1911. He achieved major popularity when he starred in The Phil Silvers Show, a 1950s sitcom set on a US Army post in which he played Master Sgt Ernie Bilko. The series was set in Fort Baxter in the fictional town of Roseville. 143 episodes were broadcast. #PhilSilvers
- The Top Of The Pops series of albums were launched in 1968. The albums were transient & would probably have been all but forgotten today except for the sleeves The tracks were all sung by cover artists. The Top of the Pops girls were memorable. This was the cover of Vol 1. #TopofthePops

- Donovan was born on 10 May 1946. He emerged from the British folk scene in early 1965 and subsequently scored multiple international hit singles and albums during the late 1960s. His work became emblematic of the flower power era with its blend of folk, pop, psychedelica and jazz stylings. #Donovan
- Born 10 May 1957, punk rock legend Sid Vicious was bassist with the Sex Pistols. He had a tumultuous life and was accused of stabbing his girlfriend to death. He eventually died of a heroin overdose in 1979. His unreleased solo singles were collated and released as a posthumous album. #SidVicious
- Born 10 May 1946 - singer/songwriter Dave Mason (born in Worcester) who with Traffic had the 1967 hit single 'Hole In My Shoe' & the solo 1977 hit single 'We Just Disagree'. Mason has worked with many notable musicians including Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Jimi Hendrix & Fleetwood Mac. #DaveMason
- Born 10 May 1952 - rhythm-and-blues singer Lee Brilleaux, who with Dr Feelgood, had the 1979 UK No.9 single 'Milk And Alcohol' and the hits 'She Does It Right', 'Roxette', and 'Back in the Night'. He died of cancer on 7th April 1994. #LeeBrilleaux

- On 4 April 1975, Bill Gates & Paul Allen founded Microsoft to develop and sell BASIC interpreters for the Altair 8800. - No 1 in the UK singles chart on 9 May 1975, 'Oh Boy' by Mud. It was originally released by The Crickets in 1957 with "Not Fade Away" as the B-side. The song had peaked at No 10 on the US charts, and No 3 on the UK charts in early 1958. #Mud
- 11 May 1974, ABC Records released Steely Dan single "Rikki Don't Lose That Number" from the "Pretzel Logic "album; it peaks at No 4 in the US, making it their biggest hit. Donald Fagen subsequently revealed that the "Rikki" in question was simply a woman he'd had a crush on in college. #SteelyDan
- Released 9 May 1975, Warrior on the Edge of Time was the 5th album by Hawkwind. Many of the lyrics are by Michael Moorcock, and the album is loosely based on the concept of his novel The Eternal Champion. - On 9th May 1935. Roger Hargreaves was born in Cleckheaton. He’s best known as the writer of the popular Mr Men & Little Miss series of children’s books. These simple and humorous stories were 1st published in 1971 & have sold over 85 million copies worldwide. My children loved them. #RogerHargreaves

- Born 7th May 1948 - Pete Wingfield, singer, pianist and producer, who had the 1975 UK No.7 and US No.15 single 'Eighteen With A Bullet', (which was later featured on the soundtrack to the 1998 film, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels). #PeteWingfield

- 7 May 1971 'Moonage Daydream' was released as a single by Arnold Corns, a band formed by #DavidBowie, the name of which was inspired by the Pink Floyd song 'Arnold Layne'. This was one of his side projects & a dry run for Ziggy Stardust. The song later appeared on Ziggy Stardust with updated lyrics.
