- Let's talk tough upwards conversations, the ones responsible for promotions and pay raises: The key to these is to bring ammo. Have a portfolio of proven successes. Present as if you have the leverage (if you add real value, you do). Quantify your value. Confidence with quantification is priceless.
- Blame feels easy. But it destroys careers and teams. When people fear being singled out, they stop: - Innovating - Taking risks - Asking hard questions Instead, they avoid. They go small. They coast. They play it safe. If you want to grow, stop looking for who is at fault. Start asking:
- - What did we learn? - What could I do differently? - How do we solve this as a team? - How do we prevent this next time? Accountability empowers. Blame isolates. Have you seen blame culture in action? How about the opposite?
- Opposite is fostering Psychological Safety, and it's rare.
