- Van Hollen: "Can you imagine FDR in the middle of WW2 saying to Churchill, 'you know, we're not going to continue to help you until you turn over half of your coal and mineral reserves.' That's not how you behave when you want to support a friend who's under attack by an authoritarian like Putin."
- Actually that isn't too far off what really happened. A good bit of British Asset and technology stripping before Germany declared war on the US... have a watch of this series if you get a chance www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHQe...

- Global capital city or provincial post industrial mill-town? It's London's international status as one of the two leading open cities in the world that disconnects it from the rest of the UK. Global capital or national capital it's an identity problem we are yet to fully grapple with.
- For Blue Monday we can't think of anything more appropriate than this charming depiction of a man getting his face eaten off by a leopard. #MosaicMonday

- I was rather hoping the Chichester Amphitheater was going to be re-opening for this sort of spectacle, but the Friday night Leopard print ladies in the Vestry might be the closest we'll ever get....
- I'm hoping that this is the one from El Djem Archaeological Museum in Tunisia, I really can't imagine that sort of thing kicking off in Chichester.....

- One of the observations regarding the putative fort at Windridge is that the corner are not rounded, therefore not the classic Roman playing card. A similar fort corner was found at the Roman Fort at Valkenburg (2021).

- Proper Norsk 1940's styling, that context needs reinforcing.
- If the Stonea "massacre" was part of Paulinus's campaign of vengeance and Grandford a fort to spearhead that action, then it may reinforce theories that the final battle was fought on Watling St up the Nene Valley #Boudicca This thread for more detail www.romanarmytalk.com/rat/showthre...

- Info from Westminster Council suggests the unit blocking Boudicca and the public realm brings in about £1k a month as a stall pitch. So the question is the erosion of the statue setting and mess of a street scene really worth that much? #BoudicaFriday
- Interesting to compare the monthly cost with that of renting a small flat in the W1 postcode... not sure we're looking at best value for the prime Big Ben viewpoint
- Windridge Villa and Fort. Drone shot from 2017, almost certainly a battle site of the Boudiccan Campaign of 60/61 AD

View full threadInterestingly the 2012 Google Earth image not only picks out the putative Principia area as a large parch mark but also the location of the projected Southern Gatehouse. It seems there is a still a lot in the ground at the Windridge Early Roman military complex.
- less distinct than the Eastern Gatehouse but the Southern Gatehouse appears here as a crop mark (red dot);
- setting of a Grade II Listed Structure too....
