- I love this whole thing and not just because it quotes me. extremely catty in a way I think is magnificent, especially this bit about how much the internet hates Sam Altman's coffee machine

- This may genuinely be one of the most devastating things I've seen about a tech CEO in the mainstream media. Amazing.

- Fucking hell. I know nobody’s in greasy overalls for you to fetishise, Labour, but this is still an industry full of working people on marginal incomes that you are voluntarily destroying, you dumb tech-fetishising goons. You just sold us for corporate strip-mining. Up the workers.
- ICYMI: An amendment backed by creatives that would ensure AI models obey copyright law has been defeated in parliament as the contentious Data Bill proceeds towards its final stages 👇 #BookSky
- I'm sincerely happy for the Giant Bomb crew for reclaiming their work from a pretty awful corporation, but it just reminds me how angry I am for rounding up seven-figure funding to buy 1UP from Ziff-Davis only for them to refuse ("it's too valuable!!") and... let the site fall into rot for 12 years
- God after the Giant Bomb sale I just wanna buy 1UP.com and give it to @jparish.bsky.social

- The Labour party just voted for a future in which writers and artists can't make a living from their work, in which the quality of art and information is locked into a downward spiral of regurgitated slop, and in which data centres make the planet increasingly uninhabitable.

View full threadWe're stumbling into a heat-crazed, AI-driven nightmare where swathes of the planet become incompatible with human life. Rhetoric around immigration will get even more poisonous. If you Google 'how to survive heatwave' then AI will give you bad advice, making the problem worse with each query.
- And it might make things infinitesimally less terrible if people could enjoy art that challenges the madness, or has the power to bring some comfort in dark times. But the Labour party don't care about the rights of creative workers, they dom't care about art, so they've sold us down the river.
- 2025 has been the driest year for over 90 years. Temperatures are soaring. Reservoirs are dwindling. I'm expecting hosepipe bans this summer. And AI requires millions of litres of fresh water to keep data centres cool. Are we expected to prioritise AI over our gardens, our pets, human thirst?
- There are lowlying island nations, UK overseas territories, exploring their potential to build data centres and make money from AI: which will increase the rate of global heating and rising sea levels. These islands will eventually drown themselves. What the hell are we doing, as a species?
- I'm angry, but my anger is less important than the outcomes of this decision. Anyone credulous enough to believe in the dream of AI is hoping it will magically provide solutions to all of the great challenges of our age, particularly energy security and climate breakdown. Spoilers: it won't.

- Art is better when artists can make a living from it. Art is more diverse and useful when artists can make a living from it. We get a much broader range of stories and perspectives when art is a viable career path for working class artists, and not just a hobby for the privileged.

- Disco Elysium blowing up the way it did should be evidence that there’s no predicting the games market. Imagine trying to tell a money guy that game of the year was gonna be an Estonian visual novel by communists where you can pet the mailbox and say “I want to make fuck with you”

- Signal is secure and private. Understanding the larger issues raised by SignalGatee requires interrogating the surveillance business model. Brilliant work, getting right to the marrow of the issue, from @rondeibert.bsky.social !
