Proud Alt-text scold
- No generative Ai in my work. Never has been, never will be. If there comes a time when software won’t allow me to disable, I will revert to earlier versions/hardware rather than use the cult generator chop shop. Spellcheck is the limit, not even autocorrupt. (it makes more mistakes than it catches.)
- Oh, Boeing, you have the opportunity to do the funniest thing with the ones you had to recall….
- Remember: his idea of “help” and “cure” is confining people to labor farms. Where work will set them free.
- Gotta love the simultaneous flash and bang of a thunderstorm overhead. And by love, I mean “jump scare.”
- I work in the basement so I found out about our thunderstorm when the dog (who is Spouse's and indifferent to me) came down and hid under my desk.
- Our cats are remarkably thunderstorm resistant (they tend to stay in their window perches during hail storms, even) but that one made the cat in the room look up and open an eye.
- Oh for the love of god
- Alabama GOP chair (and RNC vice-chair) John Wahl will help decide whether Tommy Tuberville lives in Alabama or Florida. Turns out, he uses a Tennessee driver’s license under a different name. www.al.com/news/2025/05...

View full threadWell, that was another wild ride. Did you check out the link in the article? Someone proposed a religious exemption to the voter id law, but it didn't pass, possibly in part because the bill's sponsor insisted it wouldn't apply to Muslims.
- Yeah. That was so… weird.
- Nobody. Wants. This. Audiobooks are an art form. AI narrators are not even remotely qualified to replace the talented human narrators. And I think Audible is kidding themselves if they think people are going to use a $12 credit on something read by a machine.
- Hate this a lot. Value human creators, writers, artists, narrators, editors -- everyone in the chain of making a book and putting it out into the world should be a human being. Humans make art for humans. P.S. fuck AI -- eat shit, artbarf robots www.theguardian.com/books/2025/m...

View full threadI have the ebook but have had a hard time getting my brain wrapped around it (only about 20% in) and think this is one of those that benefits from being narrated. I like it so far, my brain has just been weird lately.
- Yes. Lily’s written voice is kind of breathless and VERY ADHD and her narrative works better as a narrative log. It sounds silly, but her understanding of her built environment has really helped me be a better cat parent.
- *adding Kitty Cat Kill Sat audiobook to list*
- It’s seriously one of my favorite audiobooks ever. Was definitely my top 2023 read.
- I love the Kate Quinn audiobooks because of Saskia's talent. And Kate - there's an immediate bit of dialog in my mind, like a jukebox (which my mind Does Not Do - it does spreadsheets, flow charts, not the other options) Eva narrating the Easy Death series - just binged it again this week.
- My favorite Eva is always going to be Kitty Cat Kill Sat, but I went looking for Eva’s books after that. Voice is EVERYTHING. When Jenny Sterlin died, I was worried the Mary Russells would stop working. (Fortunately, they mostly didn’t) The voice becomes the character.
- what the fuck
- That’s some voice to text fuckery!
