- Yeah, I and other NOAA probies got fired before that order to “stop the next wave”. The reaper already reaped us.

- Yes, there's a nuance there... maybe it should be "we should all write the review we'd appreciate getting" because nobody exactly LIKES criticism, however constructive....?
- Yes! We should always write the review we’d like to receive.
- 🌊 Sad times for ocean advocacy ... Not long after being needled in the President's "skinny budget," Ocean Conservancy laid off 21 people. www.eenews.net/articles/oce...
- I had to explain to a nine year old recently what the First Amendment protects: Religion. Speech. Press. Assembly. Petition. Only the last one was a little abstract for him to understand right away. www.cbsnews.com/news/doge-us...

- If you're feeling angry or lost, do what @donmoyn.bsky.social urges & submit a public comment opposing the proposed OPM rule to politicize public services (Schedule F). Get specific! Get snarky! - I feel so much better now.
- I don’t want this terrible and illegal action to be buried amidst pope coverage….
- I used to make fun of movies like The Day After Tomorrow for being inaccurate, but now I think any movie that gets people talking about climate change is good.
- In our house, the grownups' nonstop commentary during a watch party educated the next generation more on ocean and atmospheric circulation, numerical modeling, SLR rates, and glacial/interglacial cycles. Maybe we do a MST (2025?) video podcast for climate movies as ed/outreach?
- 🌊 Fantastic news! AGU and AMS will help get the messages out that NCA6 was going to convey! news.agu.org/press-releas...
- Keep the free press! Donate (if you can) to help make up the loss of the 5-10% funding that this will cause!

- Congrats! You deserve all the recognition!
- 🌊 Great big congratulations to @scottdoney.bsky.social as he is elected into the National Academy of Sciences! Scott has been a key mentor for me and so many others, teaching us to always ask hard questions and see through flimsy science. 👏
- Cutting science is a long-game self-harm strategy. And scientists have been saying so since January. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/30/b...
- This is important for people who use Apple AirPlay a lot. Update your devices' software!
- This isn’t good. US citizens, start asking your elected officials when we will see this legally mandated report?

- I don’t, but it was a person’s post about NCA6 being ended. Here’s the NYT’s summary: www.nytimes.com/2025/04/28/c...

- Stunned at the assertion out front that developed nations aren’t major contributors to emissions.
- 🌊 Expert opinion below on deep sea mining… worth reading
- Thankful to my friend & colleague Victor Vescovo for his important statement on #DeepSeaMining in light of all the recent attention, including US efforts to pursue it outside of international law. In short, DSM will NOT achieve the economic or national security goals people think it will!!! 🌊 🦑

- Oh hey, me too! That bureaucratic backlog that DOC was talking about—associated with firing, unfiring, and refiring us—has finally resolved! Now if we can get some clarity on where those health insurance premiums went that we paid.

- NEW: The total loss of NOAA’s office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research —a nerve center of global climate science, data collection and modeling — represents a setback for climate preparedness that experts warn the nation may never recover from. By @abrahm.bsky.social

- In lieu of a web story from NOAA about annual atmospheric CO2 trends, please enjoy and share this post from my esteemed former NOAA colleague @tdiliberto.bsky.social !
- Earlier in April, NOAA released the global concentration of CO2 for 2024 which was 422.7 ppm. CO2 concentrations grew by 3.7 ppm which was far and away the biggest increase on record. Why? Well, usually there is a story at NOAA that explains...Not this year though. gml.noaa.gov/ccgg/trends/...

- You’re also jumping over practical steps 0, 0.1, 0.2, etc: prenatal care and childbirth are expensive. Maternal mortality is shockingly high. Childcare costs a ton. Incomes can’t support one earner families in most places. Housing is scarce and expensive.

- I thought captains of industry know how to delegate? Like as a matter of survival?
- This is heartbreaking and dangerous (see the parts about haz waste). Congress MUST step up. So many of NOAA's activities have legislative mandates behind them. Not fulfilling them is like a breach of contract to the American people.
- NEW: NOAA scientists are cleaning office bathrooms and reconsidering critical experiments after the Commerce Department failed to renew contracts for hazardous waste disposal, janitorial services, IT and building maintenance. By @lisalsong.bsky.social

- All this and I STILL have to fill out a new medical history questionnaire Every. Damn. Time. I go to the doctor? Make it make sense!! 😭
- I'm devastated and heartbroken. Staff at the U.S. Global Change Research Program (USGCRP) got the ax. Most likely means the Sixth National Climate Assessment (NCA6) is also cooked. USGCRP was the glue across the Federal family on all things climate - reducing duplication and making efficiencies.
- Do you have more info on who/what was cut? USGCRP and NCA are both legislatively mandated so… maybe that will help, in time?

- Most NOAA employees who have been reinstated are on admin leave and unable to do our work or even access our email. Odds are high that Finlay is in that situation.

- However! There are at least two other relevant cases to watch: one in MD, filed by several states’ attorneys general, and a class appeal going through MSPB, which is itself in the center of a legal battle. This twisty tale has a long way to go.
