Is there an explanation for the Pete Rose thing other than virtue signaling to the big fascist President that cheating and corruption is a good and patriotic thing to do?
May 13, 2025 23:05A common theme...
Rose had a sexual relationship with her for several years in the 1970s, beginning before she turned 16. Rose acknowledged he had a sexual relationship with the woman but said he believed that it started when she was 16 -- which is the legal age of consent in Ohio.
Gambling. They were out for gambling. You can't be in bed with MGM and have the sign hanging in every clubhouse warning them they'll end up like Jackson and Rose if they bet.
Apparently Pete had a dalliance with a 16 yo girl where he was pitching.
Jose Canseco about to get a statue next to the Washington Monument.
Rapists stick together
Gambling, much of the MLBs misgivings with these players has to do with delegitimizing the game. Gambling was the largest one prior to the Steroid era, but cheating is unironically part of the game (see sign stealing, foreign substance, etc).
Pete Rose was popular and an old article I read was that the baseball commission acknowledged his contributions but because of his gambling they would not give him recognition until after his death. The reason was recognition comes with money.
Hell, if thee ghost ov Ty Cobb enters Don's room and goes to work on him with a baseball bat like Capone in "The Untouchables", someone is welcome to text that to me.

Not really. But at least the Reds just lost, in extras, to none other than the Chicago White Sox.
Baseball was never the same for me after Pete cheated
My friends and i kind of always figured the MLB would be too stubborn to induct him in while he was alive
field of dreams sequel, Costner's comeback vehicle, the "Charlie hustle"...
Not to mention giving a very public free pass to sexual misconduct.
Anyone who big boy babyhands thinks is his friend shall never face consequences for his actions. It explains many of his otherwise inexplicable actions.
on the nose
The "ban for life" makes sense, leaving it up to HOF voters if they want to put the person in. That said, the timing is interesting. Not just the Trump connection, but the fact that the pendulum has currently swung toward sports gambling way farther than it probably should.
Whomst?

I think it just puts it behind them. And if anyone says, "but he's dead" they can say, "yeah, so is Shoeless Joe."
Having HOF attached to your name is a $ maker. At least he didn't get to profit from it.
*and the Trump thing too
There is none. And throwing Shoeless Joe into the mix just makes the whole thing stink even more...
Trumped posted about it in February, he clearly has rich old white friends who care about this.
I knew this moment was going to come when that posted happened
Don’t forget the statutory rape allegations!!
The Hall is owned by Jane Clark (who isn't very interested) and needs $ to operate and stay relevant. Now, how do they do that? Induction ceremonies - they get people through the museum and in Cooperstown. Pete Rose's induction ceremony would undoubtedly be pretty big, and as such, good for them...
A faction of baseball fans (me) have been calling for him to be judged on his playing career instead of his coaching career. And another faction that thinks it’s weird that guys who performed worse crimes are in the hall of fame no problem.
Baseball writers get the final say if and when he might get into the HOF.
It was in MLB commish credo to wait until Rose spent his whole life to get back just to give it to him once he died.
TFG twisted Manfred's elbow around the time the Dodgers bent the knee. I'd have to double check the dates.
Yes.
Signaling that statutory rape is also OK.
They are signaling that to the public on behalf of fascist president.
No
