- Why did I become a Washington fucking Wizards fan
- Reposted by Alexander AbnosLa Brigada De Oro, a vibrant Nashville SC’s supporters' group, is canceling game-day festivities today amid a wave of increased ICE activity. "We're suffering. We're hurting a lot. We feel targeted."

- Popes used to rule alongside Royals, now their favorite teams lose 10-0 to them.
- Excellent work by @stltoday.com, who nonetheless buried the lede: Pope Bob is a White Sox fan, per their reporting. www.stltoday.com/news/local/m...
- Logical next step after appointing a Chicago Pope:
- New Pope is Chicago Fire FC, 2002-2003.
- Really good look at the NWSL's mental health leave benefit, how it came to be, why it's important, and the first few players to use it by @theolloydhughes.bsky.social: www.theguardian.com/football/202...
- Reposted by Alexander AbnosFor years, American owners snapped up European soccer clubs big and small on the cheap. Their influence accelerated the sport's commercialization. Now, European club soccer is coming for the American market. I wrote on a kind of reckoning @theguardian.com www.theguardian.com/football/202...
- • Jokes about deportations for World Cup visitors • No lasting transportation improvements planned • Wild claims of job creation & economic impact • Hope that soccer would be "incentive" for Russia to stop war with Ukraine The Trump World Cup task force is here: www.theguardian.com/football/202...
- Trump & Friends have convened their 2026 World Cup Task Force, the purpose of which appears to be to say that the US is ready (questionable) and to welcome people worldwide to visit (in the most un-welcoming manner possible.) www.theguardian.com/football/202...
- OK how about a Taremi assist
- Reposted by Alexander AbnosIf you're watching this game in Germany, I'm hearing that doctors recommend you take exactly one dose of Wolfsburg-Hoffenheim on Friday night to offset the excitement you are currently experiencing.
- A Mehdi Taremi goal at this point would be a solid candidate for the biggest goal in Iranian football history (and there have been some big ones).
- Cancel the other semi, IMO. This is the final now.
- Feels more than slightly unfair for Alajuelense, IMO. www.theguardian.com/football/202...

- If SKC wins without taking a shot then anyone even obliquely referencing Dejan Jovelic and "revenge" v the Galaxy should be arrested immediately.

- Two disappointments for two dudes that aren't used to disappointments and dwindling time to make up for them, and two deserved victories for long-distance travelers who might never have a better chance to make history. Yeah, Wednesday felt notable to me. www.theguardian.com/football/202...
- Reposted by Alexander Abnosgiven that there are no trans women playing professional football this is essentially just banning a minority group from having fun and getting exercise

- They put out the best broadcast product in American soccer, IMO. Big games always look/sound/feel like big games.
- Did not know til just now that Whitecaps rookie defender Tate Johnson is the son of former KC Wizards legend Brian Johnson! I have watched Brian Johnson and Scott Uderitz's kids play professional games this year. Who's next, Ryan Tinsley?! This skeet is for ~6 people.

- Pablo's immense catalog of work speaks for itself, but I'll just say that as his editor for most of those 7 years I was always impressed with the level of connection he forms with subjects and readers alike. He'd be an asset to any publication seriously interested in covering soccer in America.

- Mets fans singing "My Girl" before every Lindor at-bat rules so hard in part because American fans singing like that is so rare. Hopefully it starts a trend! Singing at sports games is fun and good. Take it from A Soccer Guy.

- The longevity and productivity of this band has blown my mind and is kinda heartening. Literally the FIRST GIG I ever played anywhere was opening for these guys in 2002, when they had a different name and nearly burned the venue down with a fire-breathing trick.

- Truly don't want to take anything away from the quality of the strike, which is pretty much flawless, but I love the role the Arsenal wall plays in this goal.
