- I can't say for sure any more than you can, obviously, but I do thank that latter idea seems pretty likely. It at least feels right for how that theater is set up and the kinds of movies it gets
- Lotta millennials wanna recreate that feeling of having your parents take you to see that animated movie that got a good review in the paper and then seeing a man get his arms ripped off by an arrow
- Today's funny patron interaction: having to explain to someone that yes, Hoopla is free to YOU, the patron, the library has to pay for it to be free to you. We do not get it for free
- Frankly, this belief that I see crop up all the time that all the free services that libraries offer don't cost the library any more is one of the more inexplicable things I've come into doing this job. Like, what, you thought we didn't have to pay for this??? Why??????
- Happy birthday to the best to ever do it www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ejnt...
- Excited to announce that we'll be publishing Slices of Life by Tianran Qu! We've worked with her in the past on a print so it's very cool to be able to bring her expanded thesis project back to the states in full. Looking to have this out in September, keep an eye out for the Kickstarter soon!
- Hell yeah!
- Well I'm freaking out a little right now
- Sitting around and wondering if Sinners is going to make resonator guitars more popular

View full thread#53. Sinners (2025) Wow! This is, like, the best movie ever made! Nice!
- Talking about everything I loved about this movie would take a very long time, so I'll just leave this with the note that making a movie where you will enjoy it more if you know who Charley Patton is is a great way to make personally like it www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdyt...
- #52. The Shrouds (2024) Maybe the most I've ever laughed at a David Cronenberg movie. Another fine entry in his late period "not gory, but extremely uncomfortable" series, with lots of thoughts about technology and conspiracy and bodies. Quality stuff throughout
- Kudos for having one of the first big scenes in the movie be maybe the worst first date every committed to film. Just a perfect mix of "oh god, why are you doing this" with a bit of gross out stuff for flavor

- Well now I want to read it! If only to see how exactly that plays out
- I'm dying to know have this even happened. Why would you choose this as a 2000AD cover? Does it even have anything to do with any of the stories inside? Is it just a sign that the people making 2000AD at the time were a lot older than the people reading it?
- Sinners is a great movie for a lot of reasons, but my favorite one is that your enjoyment of it will increase a little if you already know who Charley Patton is youtu.be/YKuq7p5MJ8E?...
- A few of these make me feel like we were really robed of Jay Kay having a side career where he plays one off bad guys in tokusatsu shows

View full threadI've been think more about this and I think part of it is that Fred *is* a self-aware guy, but that self-awareness can be inconsistent (or at least reads as inconsistent from the outside).
- Which I think is how you can get stuff like this, where he does seem to be putting on a character that others project on to him, but the execution of that may not be obvious is you're not Fred Durst

- I'm not a fan of driverless cars as is, but driverless cars in Boston sounds like an actual hazard to human life. These things get confused by parking lots, how the hell are they going to navigate a city as randomly laid out as Boston?
- [Not loaded yet]
- My friend Nick likes to say that the roads of Boston were designed by the horses that used them and their planning boiled down to "where is the tastiest grass?". It checks out in my experience!

- Frankly, we might luck and they'll just drive themselves directly into the river once they get a look at the city's layout
- i can no longer trust any music albums posted to Youtube younger than the past year, so many full on albums are now being made with AI, its disgusting "a tool is just a tool" i refuse to believe that you think youre putting out the best art youre capable of when ur posting hours of AI music daily
- I hate it so much. Some time I just want to put on something that has certain sound as background noise and now I can't trust anything that doesn't look like a real record label out it out (and it's not like that a sure fire sign of being legit anyway)
- I do think it mostly comes across as about that self aware, with the exception of the bits towards the end where Thora Birch is all smiling at Durst and telling him to run when Bill Paxton shows up, that makes it feel like it's trying to be sincere, I think?
- Having said that, Todd mentions that the final video was not completely finished and I can definitely imagine this all leading up to a twist where it's clear that Durst's character is completely delusional and anything that seemed romantic was just him imagining things
- Another week, another example of Morihiro Hayashi coming up with an interesting way to represent a non-visual idea visually

- I'm really curious if the people making this claim are actual confused newbies or seasoned Gundam vets who can't separate what they know about Gundam from what the show actually need you to know (I'm assuming it's just the latter, but I'm enough out do the loop that I'm not 100% sure)

View full threadReally looking forward to not voting for that doofus when he's up for reflection, he's such a loser
- This has also reminded me that during last years election, I saw some signs outside the polling place near my work where Joe Kennedy III was begging people to vote for him as a write in candidate Well who's fault is that, Joe? Who put you in that position??

- I honestly think a lot of the online discourse around Lucas and Star Wars would be better served if more of the people engaging with it actually watched any of the movies and shorts he made before Star Wars
- [Not loaded yet]
- It's a good movie! Don't know if you want to watch it on a loop for 10+ hours, but I think it'll be a nice time regardless

- It's such a a great design. And I'm happy that it's still getting fan art, I was worried that show might stick around in this day and age of non-ongoing anime being quicky forgotten after it's season ends
- (and maybe got less of their information about those Lucas and Star Wars from online randos and video essayists of dubious quality, but I recognize that is a much much harder battle that may not be worth the energy it would require)
- I’ve signed an exclusive with DC! Such fun things in the works, including muchmuch more Absolute Wonder Woman!!
- Hot damn, congratulations!
- Have multiple hobbies, even if it's just two. I've seen so many people who seem to just marinate in one thing all day long and it seems to be very very bad for you. Also, if you don't, have at least one non-online friend, it will do a lot for your perspective on the world
- [Not loaded yet]
- Exactly! It's such a sure fire way to take something you love and make something you resent but can't let go of
- Kieron makes a very good point here. I feel like if you spend a lot of time marinating in a lot of nerd heavy online places, it's really easy to miss a lot of the built in assumptions that all the people who aren't doing that have

- Few things annoy me more than the fact that I cannot write off Wahlberg as a total hack because he has done legitimately good work in movies I like. Why cannot he simply be awful both personally and artistically, it would make it so much easier
- I'm making another attempt to read through all of 17776, which I haven't done in full due to a combination of being a tad disorganized and also because this is really the exchange that the rest of the piece has to beat and that's a pretty high bar for me personally
- Inventing a new son. He looks like a “Milton” to me.

- That I can't watch all of Warner's back catalog on Max on any give day is beyond baffling (The only nice thing I can say about this specific incident is that they appear to have just dropped stuff from Discovery, which I don't have a very high opinion of and do not watch)
