- Some interesting stuff in this SOCOM request for information related to "Human Machine Teaming". Drone navigation, high altitude sensor payloads, and more. They're interested in innovative, cutting edge experimental ideas. sam.gov/opp/6ecbdf07...
- They mention *13* different alternative drone navigation techniques for GPS-denied environments. "Noncooperatively use RF signals of opportunity from space based or terrestrial emitters for alternative position fixing," lots of vision-based nav (VIO, SLAM, photogrammetry, etc.), even celestial nav.
- noncooperatively building an RNAV system out of a bunch of ADFs and AM radio stations

View full threadI hadn’t kept up with anything in that world because learning another Paradox Game would take time so I’ve stayed away from EU IV, but maybe now it’s time
- I haven't read every single update, but the broad gist is exciting to me. a very simulationist turn, a bit "what if Vicky 2 had Imperator's war system and began in the late medieval period"
- Oh shit EUV?!
- yeah they finally let Johan admit what Project Caesar is... all we had to go on previously was 50 dev diaries about a grand strategy game starting in 1337 😔
- Everybody who can land a Hornet on an aircraft carrier at sea gets to make snarky remarks about this. That’s it.
- Breaking: Another F/A-18 fighter jet from the Truman aircraft carrier has been lost in the Red Sea, the second jet lost from the carrier in just over a week, per 4 people familiar w/the incident. 2 aviators ejected and were recovered by helo with minor injuries. www.cnn.com/2025/05/06/p...
- You know the mantra: "Any landing you can walk away from ..." [Is a good landing.] "And any landing where you can use the plane again" [Is a great landing!] Finally sold the Cirrus after 2000+ "great" landings....
- sold in favor of another aircraft, or looking forward to not budgeting for any more surprise annuals?
- It was a Häg Capisco off marketplace. Needs new seat foam but otherwise in great shape.
- sucks to have to log into Facebook to use Marketplace, but at least the chair's a big plus

- it's wild to me that this came out in 2004. the design sensibilities are nestled in with Ultima Online in a way that screams "1999". I loved it

- oh yeah, non-towered is definitely a different ballgame. I trained at class Ds and even though I fly out of a G now, my non-towered game could improve. I'm way too rigid and stick to the format even when just talking to the other folks would be more effective
- yooo that's huge! comms is such a big hill to get over but it's so rewarding to feel comfortable working like a team with ATC and other pilots

- it is always in your best interest to fly with new instructors when given the opportunity. even if it's not part of a permanent switch, you will inevitably learn something new or get new perspective on things you already know. and if the fit is good, maybe you've got yourself a new main instructor!
- and today I pulled it off with ATC from the pros at PilotEdge. first time I've done a complete instrument flight with ATC but without X-Plane or MSFS shitting the bed. now to practice every day leading up to my checkride

- last month I flew back for Dan Friedman's retirement party and hooboy did that glass and steel monstrosity of a new Informatics building not lend the impression that they need any cash either. using corporate funds to make the most corporate and surveilled environment for students
- practicing instrument procedures on a good home simulator setup might not be loggable, but it's great practice and lets you explore unusual scenarios that would be unsafe to train in a real airplane. for example, what happens if the cat jumps in your lap after you pass the final approach fix?

- highly recommend Baratza if you're looking for something in the "buy once cry once" range; they work very well and are very repairable

- seeing Wrathful down here made me realize that it's less of a "this character will throw down if necessary" and more like "this character is an abuser". RP runs shall be adjusted accordingly

- RFK Jr. is not wrong. We are failing to keep our communities healthy. This message resonates with many. But I have serious concerns about his ability and expertise to lead such a sweeping overhaul of the HHS workforce. We need accountability, not just rhetoric.
- as one of your constituents, hearing "RFK Jr. is not wrong" sure makes me glad we can boot you out of office next year!

- indeed. I knew it was a good sign when, after a 2.5 week break doing job interviews and stuff, my instructor sent me up to just solo more after a 4000ft tow and a pattern tow. didn't fly together again all week leading up to the checkride 😅 I just got to have fun with the K23s

- this sounds to me like a reason to do more flying! woof to the gearbox on that one, though. even with experience in gliders that's not exactly a welcome occurrence
- I cannot imagine how fried my brain would be trying to do that in two weeks, even with a head start on the ground knowledge. and yeah, a total of 15 days training, 61 tows, and almost 20 hours. it was intense but worth it to have the whole season in front of me before I have to start a new job
- also worth noting that per my instructor and examiner, it could have been done much sooner. I was bought into training to that extra level of proficiency though. I didn't want any doubts about either solo or the checkride, and it feels great to have done it that way
- thank you Dan! 💜🫡
- passed my private glider add-on checkride today! and took one last flight before I have to head home from Glider Paradise aka Williams Soaring. checkride nerves will always be there but Rex is a great examiner and made it a pleasure
