Dialectical Materialism 🤝 Dialectical Immaterialism
Reality is a progression of Moments and we're in the dumbest one yet
- We're trying to use first order reasoning to win second order arguments, but we all know reality is too complex (and media is too corruptible) to work out every wrong fact we believe. We need to put together second order reasoning that justifies our first order assumptions: how will we feel better?
- Egan asks: "What policies, if any, is the party prepared to sacrifice, or at least put off to the side?" This is the Moderate Call To Inaction. In reaction to reasonable fears of Trump's changes for the worse, we should also rule out changes for the better, bc they might be unpopular in some places
- my kingdom for anyone on the “dems should take culturally moderate positions” to explain what this actually means in practice? www.thebulwark.com/p/hard-calls...
- People are recognizing that there is some underlying truth, but it's not in what he says (fully bullshit). It's in what he signals: that we can't trust establishment institutions with our health. The issue is, the reason we can't trust institutions is because they pull eugenicist stunts like this...
- When I imagine having kids I think about how to teach things that are "universal" vs things that are particular and the good news is I'm very particular and the bad news is once I recognize something universal I'll never shut up about seeing it everywhere. So I know therapy will not save us✌️
- Liberalism elevates trade markets as vectors of cooperation & mutual benefit, but if we are all consumers on the market we are also all competitors, fighting for diminishing marginal benefits Neoliberalism leverages that to alienate and exploit us and fr that's why trader joes gives me anxiety
- My knowledge of Catholic lore is very limited but it feels significant to me that Pope Leo chose to describe his role in the church hierarchy as an instrument for others, in the image of Saint Augustine. Probably bad for reproductive rights and good for most other things.
- The right has long opposed postmodernism celebrating our ability to construct meaning for ourselves. They feel a duty to hierarchies in nature & religion, or in wealth & power. This is where that kind of hollow adherence leads: our institutions of health find your lives and deaths fully meaningless.
