- The @science.org journalists have an update on the recent claim to have found DMS in the atmosphere of #exoplanet K2-18b - explaining some of the community backlash 🔭🧪 www.science.org/content/arti...
- Today, a task with our #exoplanet discovery was given to the National Astronomy Olympiad in Bulgaria, in the 17-18yo category. Students are given some stellar parameters and the RV curve of the three planets, and have to infer: minimum masses, common synodic periods, equilibrium temperatures. 1/3
- Transit of #exoplanet WD 1856+534 b across its white dwarf host star. An unusual system where we see a small white dwarf star partially occulted by a giant planet every 1.4 days, resulting in a much deeper decrease in brightness than most exoplanet transits. #Astrophotography
- 🔭🪐☄️ I did a MRes rather than a MSc (different uni) and it was *the* single greatest thing I ever did for my career. Exams are not for me and I’m not gonna pretend they are! Why do that when you can start super fun research immediately?! And this being on #exoplanet atmos, and at St Andrews? Wow!👇👇👇
- Graduating soon and still looking for an astronomy research project for Sep 2025? 🔭 I'm offering a Masters by Research (MSc) project on #exoplanet atmospheres 🪐 at the University of St Andrews 🏴 Join us to work on modelling JWST spectra! 📜 Application details: www.st-andrews.ac.uk/physics-astr...

- In the News: www.seti.org/seti-institu... April was an exciting month at the SETI Institute, full of discoveries that push the boundaries of our understanding of life beyond Earth, including #exoplanet #K218b, #Mars and its carbonates, plus #Phobos, #Deimos, and a mudball #meteorite. 🧪 🔭 👩🔬
- Exactly. Model completeness is fundamental for such analyses. In #exoplanet detection for example, we first try to model for everything else that can induce an RV signal, such as stellar activity. We jump on comparing with an extra planet if and only if we have an adequate model without one.
- 🔭☄️ This has always been my major beef with how we discuss #exoplanet atmo retrievals: B-statistics will always give us *an* answer for what it finds *most* likely, but this is ALWAYS only relative to other ”options”. So grateful for this super interesting new paper for explicitly addressing this! ⬇️

- The K2-18b saga deepens with a great new paper out today by @luiswel.bsky.social (arxiv.org/abs/2504.21788). Turns out hydrocarbons can explain K2-18b's new JWST MIRI spectrum *without* the need to invoke DMS or DMDS as biosignatures. Read on to find out more! 🧵 #Exoplanet 🔭🪐
