- I do not understand writers who say they work on books for 8 hours at a time. I have maybe 3 hours primo writing brain a day. Maybe one more hour after a long break.May 6, 2025 14:27
- Brandon Sanderson has an excellent set of lectures on YouTube about writing. One of them, he mentions how it takes him an hour or two of writing to get properly "in the zone" and doing good work. When you're somebody who struggles to get an hour a day to work with, that can grate a bit!
- I’m impressed you can get three primo hours in. Of anything I write down maybe an hour is two are “primo” and the rest ends up tossed aside.
- That's your problem. You're using your brain.
- I write like I play the Sims. I don't touch it at all for about a month or two and then spend an entire week or two dedicating every free moment of my time to it.
- I agree with that sentiment for every writers except George RR Martin. Tik-tok, get to it, man. Times a wastin.
- Game developer here. I spent 30 years working 14-hour days. My husband is still working 7 days a week. Be glad your profession doesn't involve debugging.
- Was the same for me when I was doing book translation.
- Have you tried plagiarism? It's like it writes itself 👍
- Have you ever read this? Steinbeck wrote a letter to his editor every morning before working on East of Eden. I kinda forget how long he could work at a clip but he was very diligent about starting every day writing en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Journal...
- And I definitely remember Saunders saying in his Russian-lit-class-in-a-box that he could only do a couple few hours a day. www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/609280...
- How many words do you generally get down on an average day?
