One disconcerting thing about this still-new-ish job is that every few days, someone tells me they think I'm doing a good job, and I am just so entirely not used to that as a former orchestra musician.
To be clear, musicians pay each other compliments semi-regularly, but we never believe each other and we're usually right not to.
"Don't musicians have roomfuls of people applauding them while they're doing their jobs?" Yes, sure, but we don't really pay attention to that, sorry. We only want the approval of our teachers and anyone who we think is a better musician than we are.
