- I will forever be haunted by this footage. Trawling has only been filmed underwater a few times in documentary history, and never with such clarity. What’s so heart-rending about these shots is watching how the animals don’t just get swept up — they swim for their lives. 🌎🦑🧪May 9, 2025 21:32
- It’s important to understand as well that this is not an aberration. This is the globally dominant method of sea life extraction. ~2/3 of sustainably-certified seafood is captured by trawling, 93% of it by industrial fisheries. www.currentaffairs.org/news/sustain...
- Every fish, no matter how you are violently extracting him from his living place, will suffer and fight for his life. If you don’t support trawling, don’t support fishing. #sentientism #WoDEF #JMFP
- I hate to be a bore but it's very simple....do what you can directly (go vegan and stop eating fish) and do what you can indirectly (go vegan and stop eating the animals these fish are ground up to feed)
- And when they've finished, the sea floor ecosystem is totally destroyed and takes decades to recover. Which means that next time they won't catch much, thus they destroy their possibility of sustainable future profit. Fish populations are collapsing but nobody cares, immediate profit is what counts.
- Politicians pretend that the situation isn't so bad, so that they don't have to do something against the influential fishing industry. And each of their ideas intended to protect fish only increases the disaster.
- Terrifying, mechanized cruelty
- Out of sight, out of mind. If (or likely, when) deep-sea mining proceeds, we will also experience this level of destruction on a massive scale there, too. It was tried decades ago, and that test site shows little signs of recovery 40 years later. oceanographicmagazine.com/news/deep-se...
