- You will not believe what arrived today! Squeak! Nothing less than #SystonKnittingBanxy's @richard-third.bsky.social! He's amazing! So touched! Have taken him to see @uniofbath.bsky.social & @milnerevolution.bsky.social He now has pride of place on my desk! 😍
- It was a great pleasure to host Richard Dawkins at the Edinburgh Science Festival last night where we chatted about his latest book, The Genetic Book of the Dead. It’s an excellent introduction to his work if you’ve never read any of his books before, and beautifully illustrated by Jana Lenzová.
- Somehow feels extra important to vote this time round. 🇨🇦 #CanadaVotes2025
- Looooook at this! It’s Richard III by Syston Knitting Banxy! Obviously like to think that he would have been so chuffed to see himself in knitted form! 🤩
- Yaaaaaay! They’ve changed it!! I know a bunch of you wrote in. Huge thanks to you all! Honestly, sometimes I wonder what century we’re in. 😍
- Lovely to be quoted but how come ‘Ms’ King, not Dr or Prof? Being quoted in my professional capacity as the scientist who led the identification of the remains of King Richard III. Notice male Prof gets his title.😉 #everydaysexism www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

- I’ve copied in the journalist on X. Hopefully he’ll change it. Not sure what century this is! Feel like back in the 1950s!
- Honoured to help The Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit by explaining about how familial DNA testing works as they carry out a cold case investigation (Op. Otterington) into a 1991 rape. If you have information, contact herts.police.uk/contact youtu.be/nUsqlcKPzmg?...

- I agree. It would be sensible to use in certain cases. You’ll no doubt have seen we use the same basic methodology for the work done on DNA Family Secrets on the BBC.

- You’re right, usually just first degree relatives but I’m aware that sometimes, if there is a rare STR allele involved, they will add that to the mix of making lists of people with profiles that look similar enough to be of interest.
- Well this is rather nice. My podcast, which my husband and I basically do in spare time, has been named as one of best 100 genetics podcasts. 😊🧬 www.millionpodcasts.com/Genetics-pod...
- An excellent response by @adamrutherford.bsky.social to the latest attempt to de-extinct mammoths. I also wonder who gets to decide which species they target for attempted de-extinction. I see they’re also going for the Dodo… 👇

- I spotted that! Good ol’ @adamrutherford.bsky.social 😊

- 😂 Meanwhile “we’d like to de-extinct this really cute, fluffy miniature bunny” “Come on in! My, that is cute! I reckon we could sell cuddly toys based on that!” * note: I have literally no idea if there are any cute but extinct bunnies.

- Someone somewhere is going going, “sorry insert-extinct-animal-name-here, you just don’t have that ‘wow’ factor we’re looking for”
- I had the absolute pleasure of nattering with my lovely mate @bengarrod.bsky.social for the @milnerevolution.bsky.social podcast.Hear about his career and love of all things evolution here: youtu.be/eX4AMXxWEvw?...
- It's Evolutionary Fact Friday! People often think that evolution is directional, it's aiming for something ever better. It's not. It's much more complex than that! Listen to the rather wonderful @bengarrod.bsky.social talk about his evolution misconception bugbears here YouTube youtu.be/eX4AMXxWEvw
- Soooooo much writing to do!

- Sadly not. 😔
- Patricia Cornwall has had an interest in the Ripper case for years & we’ve chatted numerous times. If it’s one thing I know about her, it’s that she wants rigorous scientific study & that’s definitely not been the case with the shawl supposedly associated with the Catherine Eddowes murder. 👇

- Such sad news. It was reading Colin Renfrew’s books that lead me to read Arch and Anth at Jesus College, Cambridge where he was Master. He was a fantastic lecturer and so kind and generous with his time. The end of an era.

- Oh my goodness! When? He was Master at my College when I was reading Arch and Anth at Cambridge. He was the whole reason I went there.
- Ooooo, our podcast Head Number 7 has made @thetimes.com list of best podcasts of the week! Have so enjoyed working on this with @ailsarochester.bsky.social and the Audio Always team! 😊 www.thetimes.com/culture/tv-r...
- I'm going to be speaking to A-level, BTEC and T-level Biology students today at @edu_in_action! Hoping to inspire them with to continue in biology by regaling them with a tale of how DNA🧬 helped identify a King. 😊 👑 educationinaction.org.uk/study-day/bi... @uniofbath.bsky.social

- Hi everyone. I'm fairly new here so thought I would introduce myself. My background is in archaeology & then genetics so now I use genetics to answer questions in history & archaeology. I led the identification of King Richard III. I also do telly/radio presenting eg. BBC DNA Family Secrets. 😊🧬

- A big update about the lovely Viv from #DNAFamilySecrets. She came to the programme to find her sister, who I found. But what we didn't show was that it showed that Viv's dad wasn't who she thought it was. Listen to what happened next: youtu.be/XCZHKHb-VuM?... Or wherever you get your podcasts
