her 2iC is this mousey little girl who wears a metal collar and thick glasses, and doesn't seem like she could hold her own in a grocery line let alone battle, and you'd be right - she's not there to fight, she's there to "rehabilitate". as evidenced by the medical instruments she carries around.

  • I'd say she's the team medic but uh... medic implies profession and she's just a very enthusiastic hobbyist. she's extremely good at it don't misunderstand, but it's hard to get a degree when you're very obviously aroused by the thought of cutting people open.

this immediately spun out into a whole thing in my brain.

  • code-naming one of these teams "the hunting party" and being very normal about the fantasy of them kidnapping men and hunting them for sport, then rounding up the resulting women and training them as paramilitary units to aid in the revolution. they need to be commanded by a grizzled older lesbian.

  • okay here is the thing. the criticism is specifically called "saidism" and refers specifically to people who go to extreme lengths to avoid using the word 'said' in their writing because a bunch of people were taught that using 'said' is bad/lazy by really poorly made US English curriculums.
    • The idea that using dialogue-framing verbs other than "said" is the mark of fanfic is wild to me because I grew up reading commercially published authors whose dialogue was routinely slinging around framing verbs like "opined", "temporised", and "demured".

  • as a result people who are anxious about their writing ability trend towards avoiding 'said' in order to look smarter/better than they might believe they are. is it a valid criticism? lol no, neither angle of the argument has any real intellectual merit. you write how the fuck you want.

  • prescriptivism in art is for assholes who care more about the trappings and the rules than they do the substance and the experience. people just police the shit out of fanfic because they believe its less legitimate and they're insecure about themselves.

  • "art and sex are so intrinsically interlinked that they are practical synonymous" - evergreen statement sure you can make sexless art but uh... yeah, it's gonna suck and not in the fun way.
    • I think an under discussed aspect of Sinners’ success is that the movies used to be a place you could go to see sex and music, probably the things human beings enjoy the most, and things that have been almost totally absent from most wide-release modern movies.

  • there is a kind of person who thinks about sex kinda similarly to how liberals think about politics - something that only exists in a room specially designated for it, and nothing else can have any kind of correlation to it they are extremely fucking silly, and should be treated as wholly unserious

  • reading a trans woman's erotica on stream to show to your audience of pedophiles, nazis and other reactionary freaks how cringe it is, sure is a choice. don't bother guessing how quick abacus-avi was to defend pedobait, it was literally the first response to their tweet.
    • In other news, Kirsche is reading my magical girl forcefem siscon erotica on stream. Because, clearly, this is appropriate and relevant to do to a reporter. Definitely not an attempt to shame a trans woman for her sexuality x.com/BCG_Lacerto/...

  • *staring down the scope of my sniper rifle* "target acquired." 'take the shot.' *fires high calibre yurification round, hitting centre mass and forcibly transforming my target into a beautiful woman.* "Confirm hit." *my spotter, tears in her eyes* 'she's so pretty now.'
