Are we here to pay taxes? In the greater sense of contributing to the commonwealth of our fellow citizens, be it in the current monetary form or in other ways of contributing our fair share, yes that is part of living together in a society that is greater than oneself.
taxes are okay as long as they're contributing to a better quality of life for all and not to allow the greedy to abuse others.

Where we are in the galaxy has no bearing on paying taxes. Taxes are simply a practical means of providing a body (the government) with the means to perform a variety of services on behalf of us all. Without taxes we'd need to pay thousands of individual organisations separately to do the same thing
