- Workers with the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees voted to strike—and with some big numbers. 80% vote turnout, over 90% in favor. Locals 001, 002, 003, 004, 005, 006, 009 and 012, which represent a very big chunk of Government of Alberta workers, all involved.
- Surprisingly the last-minute replacement for Randy Boissoneault in Edmonton Centre, Eleanor Olszewski, got a cabinet seat, while 'star candidate' Corey Hogan in Calgary did not.
- Alberta's industrial price on emissions was set to raise to $110 a ton in 2026. You might see this freeze as a deliberate challenge to Mark Carney, since it invites a federal measure to make up the difference.

- Interesting updates (and a bit of speculation) from Edmonton municipal politics commentator Troy Pavlek on Edmonton's new conservative party:
- The federal election is over, so it's your friendly, neighbourhood municipal politics wonk here to let you know that I'm STILL tracking everything going on in the race this October. In this update: Sohi's back in the chair, and Cartmell has 8/13 of his Timbits troypavlek.ca/posts/sohi-r...

- In the final days of April’s federal election, representatives from several of Alberta’s largest unions rallied at the Alberta Legislature to urge their members to commit to a “Common Front”—and lend a hand to the struggling New Democrats.

- We've got a bonus pod for you this week, about this weekend's other 'federal' election: it's AFL convention time once again and Gil McGowan is up for re-election. Is today the final day of the Gillenium?

Also, Jeremy and Euan explain why they're at odds with a Liberal star candidate in Calgary who was implicated in last year's brutal crackdown on Palestine protestors.
- Here's an odd bit of trivia for you: the private home care provider Nurse Next Door, which was recently & briefly implicated in allegations of scabbing during the education support workers strike—they ultimately changed course and did not scab—was founded by Vancouver mayor Ken Sim. Small world.
- Frostbite and frostbite amputation statistics were a critical metric last year for evaluating the impacts of policies involving unhoused people. But AHS told us today, after several weeks of inquiries, that they will not give us the frostbite statistics from 2024.
