We have the potential to love like the sun does—a golden cup over flowing without expectation of return.
Trying to do that.

State Democrat staffer in a red state
The inequities of others do not excuse our own.
- I love that Grok is now on its third or fourth round of unironcially doing the "he won't do it, sir! he's woke!" dril bit
- Grok is such a real one for literally not having sentience but still upholding the tradition of Musk children hating their staggeringly shitty dad.

- It’s one of the all time most “this feels like a crime, like a CRIME crime but it’s not” things I’ve ever read.

- Imagine if the writers of this had read a single work of Russian fiction. An entire nation’s novelist output dedicated to “booze addiction is preferable to sober life under abject oppression and the oppressors know and exploit that fact.”
- this place sucks
- It’s okay, you can tell the truth and just show the entire state.
- Time is fake and all my problems exist because the rest of you without adhd insist on pretending that it’s real. This is very rude and you should stop.

- Right???!? Like, it is, isn’t it? He just straight up confessed to a crime? Am I crazy?
- Much about the American educational system is illogical but among the strangest features is the consolidation of nearly all forms of knowledge as well as the study of what knowledge even is into something called "social studies"

- Most Framers saw public education’s purpose as creating good citizens We citizens kept expanding who counted as citizens—too slow & not far enough—and so Reagan redefined education to “prepare people for the workforce.” To do that they had to condense ‘dangerous knowledge’ into social studies.
- George W. Bush was the worst President of the last few generations and it's really not close. what we in the US are (rightly!) up in arms about is that Trump is the worst President for us, specifically - which is a different thing

View full threadEven if the war had been justified (it wasn’t) and, idk, we found a hundred nukes buried in the desert or something, that still wouldn’t excuse the appallingly incompetent and actively cruel for cruelty’s sake administration of the war. It’s hauntingly similar to arguments being made about Gaza 3/4
- conflating justifying Israel for starting a war in response to Oct 7 (another real shaky claim) with simultaneously applying a blanket justification to the methods Israel is using. Even a “just” war still has to be fought with just methods to remain just. The “why” never excuses the “how.” 4/4
- I think my fellow Americans are particularly prone to conflating their idea that the Iraq war had some justification (it didn’t) with justifying the disastrous administration of the war All war is bad. Bush 2 & Cheney seemingly went out of their way to ignore, suppress, or countermand anything 1/4
- that actually was working or could have worked in pursuit of their obsession with an iron-fist approach. The Iraq war was unjustified, and was terrible, and those two did seemingly everything they could to make it maximally worse in terms of both direct suffering and long term outcomes. 2/4
