- It could definitely still be an issue. The assumption that people who hate blue and red would be on the same team is false. There are many 3rd parties, and people who disagree with the major two parties could easily splinter into different directions that would still result in a red/blue win.
- Your hypothesis is pure speculation. No prominent 3rd party has ever come close to a win, and even gathering everyone who hates both blue and red AND still votes, it would never guarantee a third party victory. You can afford to symbolically abstain. Not all of us can.
