I used to make video game and tech content as a day job, from 2007 to 2020. Now I do QGIS stuff, Ignition SCADA things and water loss reduction shenanigans. I also write books that aren't very good. And I'm trying to make a game about a duck. Also, I run.
- I've been informed that our hydraulic model has been submitted to the Bentley Infrastructure Awards, and it needs a video presentation. I have an hour to turn in 1 minute of absolute kino. DaVinci Resolve roars to life as I click on the shortcut. It's been a while, my friend.
- Got a call about the internet being out a PC at a sewer plant. A PC with Windows 7. That's in the SCADA network. Lost internet. After a power outage. But it's connected to a UPS, so it didn't stop. SCADA devices don't have internet. The network is up. And the only W7 PC there is FactoryTalk.
- Trying to build a standard interface for non-standard sewage installations is not fun.
- I clicked on this youtube video about the development of Claire Obscure. 5 minutes in, the host says something to the tone of: "... he was working on the Might of Magic franchise, which is a mobile game from Asia" There is a place in this world for everyone. But some... Make it hard.
- If you design or sell a keyboard with a layout like this, you are in the most literal sense the servant of evil on Earth and must be purged.
- Me: This function in Ignition's expression is really neat, but I'd need the inverse of the result. It would sure be nice if I could just invert it and not have to map out the result and then use that mapping in another expression. Maybe something like adding ! at the start. Ignition: Try that.
- The degree to which I autocomplete in my brain the apostrophe in the wrong form of the possessive in English is ridiculous. A decade on, I'm still finding wrong possessive forms in Tale of Doom.
- I was re-reading my old review for Pandora First Contact. Looking up to see if that expansion I was hoping for ever got released. And it was. Turns out they put in basically everything I mentioned in the review. Even an analogue for the Peacekepers. I should try it at some point.
