Ok, I have a question (posting here as it’s impossible to gauge reality on the hate app):
Are there any Labour voters who think that Labour’s current approach is ok?
FYI: I definitely do not, not only will they fail to scoop up the far right but will legitimise and increase far right rhetoric.
May 13, 2025 12:30I don’t know what’s worse, the far right gloating or Labour voters condoning this.
Labour.
Better than the previous Tories.
Worse than I thought they'd be.
The same pessimism about the future.
I keep emailing my (Labour) MP, telling them Starmer is getting it wrong and asking what they are doing about it. I voted for them, I feel that I have that right. More people should do this. Put the pressure on locally and expect answers.
It's a strange one, personally i can't get onboard with the current direction of travel, it's just plain bad rhetoric. We can either accept racism or reject it, dressing the language up and calling it "acceptable" is no better than what Reform UK are doing.
Yet, there is a split, it's confusing.
And yet, underneath those ructions, there's a consensus that the boat crossings are lethal and that something needs to be done with regards to access for our workforce and safe/legal routes. That really should be where the conversation is heading, it's headthumpingly mental.
Playing on Reform's turf is a dreadful look.
And the punching down.
Where's the confidence, the belief in Labour principles?
I try hard to take a balanced view.
I get the problem with our MSM.
Notwithstanding, this Government needs do some serious soul searching wrt its messaging.
I'm self professed Centrists dad and cannot stomach this from Labour. I thought we were better than this as a country and certainly thought Labour were. I will vote Green or Libdem.
It’s utterly wrong and rather than arguing against Reform’s ideas, Starmer’s ‘Temu Reform’ risks enabling and legitimising them
Not me.
Labour has been given an opportunity to effect real change & to this point has failed miserably.
RW voters & media won't change their support of RW lunatics.
And those of us who oppose RW hate-mongers won't vote for this version of Labour.
Labour is legitimising the right.
I’m still waiting for the big positive change and optimism i felt in the 90s when New labour won, so far not feeling it. It feels like we are still governed by Conservatives.
They've done some good things but the party seems incapable of getting this over to the public. But, they've also made some awful decisions which for me has totally lost my support. The latest speech on immigration has been the last straw for me. I don't recognise this party anymore.
The old Labour argument of vote X and get tory no longer stands. It's vote Labour get Reform anyway.
No
Nope, but I'll be voting for them again because what the tories or reform have to offer is worse and I don't think tactical voting for the libs would be enough to challenge them.
No. Would I vote Labour again? In a more modern voting system definitely not. But with FPTP I’d be terrified of letting Reform grab my constituency.
Been a labour voter all my adult life,
am disappointed with how they seem to be trying to deal with the threat from the far right ,
Perhaps they've looked across the pond and seen what happened to the democrats
and have come to the conclusion that they must try to appeal to those sort of voters .
It's the validation of the rotten views of the Right/Reform by this speech from Starmer that is so disappointing, and ultimately destructive to reasonable debate on immigration.
Not ok
I am a lifetime Labour voter but I won’t vote for them now.
The removal of PIP was the last straw, and yet they still keep going.
Starmer should not be quoting Enoch Powell, for certain.
We got rid of an evil incompetent government who siphoned off public funds. Yes we all had high hopes and some good things have been achieved but the media prefers to mislead. I heard Starmer yesterday but the media has selected what to report, ignoring good points. Communication poor at times.
Very disappointed. Progress on some necessaries but targeting needy OAPs, disabled/ill and the stance on immigration are destructive.
Not me. All my friends have fully rejected the direction of travel Stamer and Cooper have chosen. We have mostly joined
@greenparty.org.uk . And the centrist pointing at the Reform bogey man saying suck it up, need to understand we are not buying it. Labour have lost the room.
Tricky one. Clearly Starmer strategists believe they can out-Farage, Farage, that’s why they used the key word “damage” in his speech. We can’t have the Tories back. So it’s a straight ugly fight between Starmer and Farage. We should prepare for even more ugliness.
Although Blair messed up badly with Iraq, from 97-10, life in this country got better. Then Cameron came in and began wrecking it. I hoped that Starmer would gradually restore things, but he's actually just a poor Cameron impersonator. Pandering to Farage destroyed Cameron & it will destroy Starmer.
I think I understand the reasoning BUT the delivery yesterday was dire. They need to be much more upfront and honest about their reasons for this - at least to get people to listen before anything else! ‘Islands of strangers’ and such language is just awful. Comms are so poor.
A simple statement that we cannot have unlimited immigration will do, there is no need to adopt Farage's language. Meanwhile; cost of living, taxing the rich and corporations dodging tax. Shit in our rivers and seas, highest energy prices, train tickets, closer ties with Europe, Standing up to Trump
I agree that:
- Starmer was right to criticise the last government's record.
- people overstaying visas should be removed.
I don't agree that:
- the language Starmer employed was appropriate or helpful.
- cutting visas will make Britons take up care jobs.
- he's going to win any votes out of it.
I think it would be rather difficult to find a labour voter who does think it's a good idea, it's the antithesis of what they're supposed to be, if he were alive today my great, great grandfather (councillor for the fledgling party in 1919) would look at it and call shame upon them...
