- anyway, i guess the good news about seeing that study on the timeline is that it's done a lot to address my fears that i'm unintentionally pretentious or elitist. it's absolutely fascinating to see how many people's immediate reaction is to say "it's about london having bad weather! kids are idiots"
- i took specific courses in victorian literature and feel like i have some insight about this: 1) familiarity plays a big role. older works use different vocabulary, grammar that is unusual or even incorrect today, and an unfamiliar style. the more you read from an era or author, the easier it gets

- i don't even understand why people choose airbnb at this point. recently i stayed at a hotel and not only did it have a nice suite, but i got free tasty breakfast and access to a pool. why would i pay a similar price just to get a room in some stranger's house w/ no pool? the new app seems awful
