Let's take seriously, for a moment, the concern that gender nonconformity was being medicalized, causing girls to be inappropriately placed on testosterone.
If you believed this, genuinely believed it, how would you respond to learning a growing number of such young people identify as nonbinary?
Woman who fights to restrict gender roles complains about restriction of gender roles
Logically, this would seem like it should cause great relief among those who were concerned about inappropriate testosterone use. Gender nonconforming people can simply be gender nonconforming with no need for medical steps to validate this, which was the thing everyone was so worried about, right?
But, instead of showing relief, instead of celebrating gender nonconforming people being themselves without any medical transition needed, the same people who were so alarmed about overmedicalization also insist that NB people identify as their birth-assigned sex.
🤔🤔🤔🤔
And, what's more, the trans community - who were supposedly telling every boy who played with dolls and every girl who climbed trees that they needed to transition - ARE celebrating and supporting nonbinary people's right to be gender nonconforming without medical transition.
Curious, isn't it?
I kept pitching this story and legacy publications kept not taking it
