Both countries have taken in refugees from Donbass who chose to go one way or the other.

- Some number of thousands of people died from 2014-2022 because of the Ukrainian government's shelling of Donetsk. The war now is on a different scale. But the US encouraged Ukraine to strike civilian centers in the breakaway statelets, instead of pursuing a lasting peace or federalization.

- Use of chemical weapons by the Syrian rebels is well documented, just as well documented as the government's use. This was an apocalyptic holy war for them, of course they used them. My point here is only that Russian imperialism is dwarfed by the scale and inhumanity of US imperialism.

- Yeah you tend to have mass graves in an attrition war. Russian forces are still responsible for fewer civilian deaths, especially as a population percentage, than Israeli forces. Again, this is a relative comparison. The bar is low.
