- A Great Egret in breeding plumage causes ‘powder down’ to float in the air. It is from special feathers that disintegrate into a fine powder which collects on the beak as they preen and is used to clean, waterproof, and maintain their plumage. © Sandra Blair #birds #photography #egret #greategret
