Yes, tax revenues will go up.
But, the net isn't the same as the gross increase. New sewers, new schools, new water mains, more fire houses, police precincts, parks.
I'm not saying you're wrong about cities needing more housing. But, there are costs associated with it.
The problem is that cities frequently make zoning decisions without taking into account the associated costs. We need more housing, many areas need to be upzoned. But, not without sufficient funding to cover the infrastructure needed to support new development.
Sure in 10-15 yrs you'll probably be growing and prosperous, but any politician who opened that door will have been nuclear-bombed from the arena by angry NIMBYs who vote in droves on the local stuff.
And those newcomers won't know who you are/your sacrifice if you try to come back years later.
