Representative Ryan Clancy
Representative for Wisconsin’s 19th assembly district. Proud father, husband, troublemaker, former MPS teacher and member of the Wisconsin Legislative Socialist Caucus 🌹
- I’m proud to stand with the baristas in Madison (and all of the striking Starbucks locations) as they push back on ridiculous dress codes and demand a fair contract. Thank you to @sbworkersunited.org for continuing to organize.
- Can you guess which of these beverages would be allowed and which the Republicans want to ban? In the latest assault on “low income people” Wisconsin’s legislative Republicans are trying to ban people using FoodShare / SNAP assistance from purchasing all candy…
- I’m proud to stand with our state employees and the @afscme Wisconsin State Employees Union (WSEU) - Local 1. Federal and state cuts have real impacts on real people, and I’m grateful that so many folks are pushing back together.
- We were thrilled to join our friends, neighbors, and advocates to celebrate Hmong American Day, sharing some fantastic food — but also tough conversations about trauma in the Hmong community, the legacy of colonialism and war in Southeast Asia.
- Republicans acknowledge that there is a labor crisis in Wisconsin, but they’ll propose legalizing child labor before providing much needed public funding to save Child Care Counts, which is set to expire in *June 2025*. (1/3)
- I was honored to stand alongside the Coalition for Equity in Nursing Education (CENE) in a protest outside of the for-profit Arizona College yesterday. CENE’s demands - from ensuring that tuition is spent on eduction rather than commercials and stopping
- I’m grateful to Dr. Monique Liston for her astute analysis of Milwaukee County’s dashboard noting how many (and which) kids we’re incarcerating. As she notes, “this data does not reflect youth behavior or community norms. It reflects targeted criminalization.” www.wuwm.com/race-ethnici...
- Representative Piwowarczyk (R, West Bend) recently authored legislation to ban unearned cash transfers, including payments to new mothers in need of essentials like rent and formula to give their babies a safe start in life. You can’t make up this level of hypocrisy.
- This was infuriating but unsurprising -- WI legislative Republicans consistently get basic facts wrongs, often while defending bills it's not clear they've read, much less understand. In this case, they want to make it *harder* to prosecute cops like Mensah. Who has, again, killed multiple people.
- “Had Joseph Mensah been held accountable after the first time that he shot and killed somebody, he wouldn’t have shot and killed a second or a third person in three different incidents.” www.wortfm.org/what-happene...
- Today, at Oak Creek City Hall, I joined my legislative colleagues in hearing folks' well-justified concerns about the increasing attacks on public education in Wisconsin. (We also had a great time in community with each other and attendees-- that's important too!)
- Yesterday couldn’t have gone worse for the fragile Assembly Republicans and their reaction to a scary hat. I’m grateful that so many folks showed up to push back on these bills which attempt to stifle speech and shield police from accountability. www.alternet.org/gop-lawmaker...

- Reposted by Representative Ryan ClancyWe want people to fight. That's it. We don't want nuance. We don't want you to find "common ground." We aren't looking for ways to work together. We want leaders to stand their ground and we will reward those who do. It's not hard. The more Democratic elected officials that get this the better.
- In response to wearing a hat that he found “offensive,” Rep. Ron Tusler just called the police to have a someone removed rather than hearing his testimony. Rep Tussler called a recess and left. The next item, appropriately, also deals with the trampling of first amendment rights.
- And let's be clear: when more Americans are denied Medicaid coverage --or have that coverage "cut"-- more Americans will die.
- WHAT: a roundtable discussion on the urgent need to fully fund and support public education — and stop divesting in public schools for the sake of charter schools and vouchers WHERE: Oak Creek City Hall (8040 S 6th St Oak Creek, WI 53154) WHEN: Thursday, May 8 from 4:30-5:30pm
- Today’s town hall at the UWM Student Union with @senchrislarson.bsky.social on fighting fascism focused on building a strong, united antifascist movement — which will not happen if we only work in electoral and legislative spaces. (1/2)
- Attacks on labor and the working class are nothing new, and the efforts to remember those who fell in the struggle - against exploitative capitalism and the goons that support it - are more vital now than ever. Thanks to the many dedicated folks at the Wisconsin Labor…
- I’m glad that I was able to be a part of today’s May Day action in Madison with Voces de la Frontera. The enthusiasm both to defend immigrants and to push for real policy change is real, and continues to grow despite (and because of) attacks from the right.
- Oops forgot to tag @senchrislarson.bsky.social!!

- Late yesterday, President Donald Trump signed an executive order designed to cut off federal funding to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, a source of funding for National Public Radio and the Public Broadcasting Service, labeling the broadcasters “biased media.” (1/7)

- 👀 Stunning poll data coming out of - checks notes - Georgia: - 51.9% disapprove of Trump on immigration - 56.9% disapprove of Trump’s attacks on DEI - 80.9% want Trump to follow court’s orders This ought to make every Republican bootlickers in GA & all over nervous www.axios.com/local/atlant...

- During today's rainy May Day march we stood up for immigrants and workers -- a united front against Trump’s cruelty. Alongside WI leaders (pictured below!) & everyone who braved the weather, we remain deeply committed to the fight against authoritarianism, xenophobia, and hate.

- Our District 19 office in Madison will be *closed* for May Day (5/1). If you’re able, please join us for Voces de la Frontera’s May Day march starting at 733 W. Mitchell St. at 9:30am and ending at Ziedler Union Square. It’s already raining so please dress appropriately!
- It was a pleasure to be on Riverwest Radio’s Grass is Greener with Babette and Gary last night. We spoke about Judge Dugan’s unconstitutional arrest, the explosion of folks showing up to protests and how to welcome them, and much more! soundcloud.com/user-2404164...
- Today with @SenKeldaRoys.bsky.social and Rep. Mayadev we’re proud to share the Stop Harmful Abuse in Education Act (LRB-2409), a bill that would ensure every child in Wisconsin is free from corporal punishment and other abuse in their school. (1/2)
- I first met Brett and Chad at the Public Benefit Reform Committee public hearing where they both bravely testified in opposition to Republican attacks on folks who receive Medicaid services.
- Good, but it never should have happened in the first place. And what, right now, is stopping ICE and the Trump Administration from kidnapping someone else? nymag.com/intelligence...

- Reposted by Representative Ryan ClancyWhat an image! Venezuelan men who narrowly avoided being imprisoned by Trump in El Salvador without trial (saved by the Supreme Court) spelled out an SOS to a @reuters.com camera drone observing the Bluebonnet ICE facility. 11 days ago, buses to the airport were turned around at the last second.
- It was inspiring meeting with two classrooms at Gaenslen School this morning for career day. They had great policy ideas and questions on housing, community safety and food security. Shout out to Liam, who lobbied us for higher school staff salaries. We agree, Liam!
- Reposted by Representative Ryan Clancyi'm mostly not out here just to repost memes, but this is in fact a photograph of me soooo
- I was excited to meet with Leaders Igniting Transformation advocates today and hear their perspectives on everything from equitable public education funding to defending our democracy. I am inspired and hopeful after our meeting.
