As historian Serhii Plokhy writes in "Lost Kingdom: The Quest for Empire and the Making of the Russian Nation," RU's problem is that it doesn't know what it is and therefore doesn't know what it is not (Ukraine). RU struggles with the fact that it is NOT and has never been a real country (like UA).
