- Oh no, I want to be opposed to having an American pope, but they outfoxed me by making him a Chicago Pope!

- Reposted by RobinI would say it's unbelievable, but it's ABSOLUTELY believable. This administration would deport a 2-year-old U.S. citizen without due process, separate a family, and not see the irreparable harm of their actions. The inhumane actions will not stop with immigrants. All our rights are on the line.

- Reposted by RobinI’ve spent the better part of 20 years litigating habeas petitions and this is just totally ridiculous, even if the prisoner were the most sophisticated lawyer in the country.
- JUST IN: In newly unsealed filings, an ICE official indicates that the government considers 24 hours to be a reasonable amount of time for an Alien Enemies Act deportee file a habeas claim before removal. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

- I know this seems insufficient and slow to many people, but I cannot stress enough how unusual and extreme this is. Discovery disputes typically take ages. Bad faith actors can get away with a lot b/c courts strongly prefer parties try to work things out themselves. Xinis isn't having any of it.
- NEW: Judge Xinis accuses the Trump admin of "a willful and bad faith refusal to comply with discovery obligations" in the Abrego Garcia case based on "continued mischaracterization of the Supreme Court’s Order." She orders full responses. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

- This is vital reporting, both as a way to contest the government's in-court statements and to emphasize that some officials on the ground are still following court orders. It matters that Boasberg held the hearing. It matters that the Supreme Court acted so fast.
- Reposted by RobinJust before 1 a.m., #SCOTUS stepped back into the Alien Enemy Act litigation with a (remarkable) ruling that suggests, among other things, that a majority of the justices is tiring of the Trump administration’s Calvinball. - Quite the pointed dissenting statement from Pillard, despite its brevity: "In the absence of an appealable order or any clear and indisputable right to relief that would support mandamus, there is no ground for an administrative stay." Can't wait for a new motions panel in May.
