- This is the cover of SPORTS ILLUSTRATED from 47 years ago today. In all my years working there, I was always thought this was the most beautiful horse racing cover in SI history. Part of it is Affirmed is iconic but the image itself captures a spectacular-looking horse in perfect flight.
