- Another scoop from Jeff Mervis (@policyhound.bsky.social): NSF's ~1400 grant terminations have disproportionately affected PIs from groups underrepresented in science: women, racial & ethnic minorities, & those with disabilities. 1/3 www.science.org/content/arti...

- Reposted by Riley ActonAn example of the disruption to science caused by the NSF’s 15% overhead dictate: At the University of Washington, all newly awarded NSF grants are now on hold indefinitely with no advance spending allowed.

- Reposted by Riley ActonAnyone who wants to call basic scientific research “wasteful spending” should have to get past Reviewer 2. Seriously, I wish people knew how hard we work, often for less $ than could be made in industry, all because we care about helping society and mentoring the next generation.

- Reposted by Riley ActonIf Trump is serious about tariffs on movies, it's a very dangerous escalation. Tariffs have not traditionally been applied to services, and the United States is a massive net exporter of services. We would be extremely vulnerable to any service-based retaliation.
- Reposted by Riley ActonThinking about devastating cuts to NSF: US gov-funded science has been the engine upon which most of the tech wealth was generated. But the oligarchs (currently hoarding much of that $) think it’s their own brilliance & not the accident of standing close to the scientific engine that made them rich.

- Reposted by Riley ActonThis is not something the President can decree. Reporting like this makes it seem as if Trump has more power than he does. He does not have the power to do this. His wishes and obscene desires are not, in fact, policy. He’s just talking— essentially braying at the moon like an enraged wolf.
