- Found this old pic from 2013 in NY, featuring @hntdove.bsky.social sneaking from the flank after an army of Tolkiens.
- So thrilled for this! An Eugen Bacon story is not something you'll want to miss. And this cover is 🤯 @starsandsabers.bsky.social has been putting out so many great things lately!

- Some nice reviews of Kap's Needle popping out! You can get the book in paperback and ebook! darkmattermagazine.shop/products/dis...
- And more about this. Don't seek objective, 100% logical reasons why your story was rejected. Because that's what techbros will offer you (or already are doing) with AI-gen bullsh*t. They'll insist that there's a reason. Human creations don't need to have reasons why they worked or not for someone.

- 😑😑 It feels more boring than any regular job, tbh

- Yes! The world today seems overly focused on the results because that is what's being sold on social networks all the time. Traveling is another example. I've known folks who just like to say they've been to some places and had the opportunity to post pics, but didn't actually experience much.
- A reminder that a rejection is never personal. It almost always is not about the story. It might just not fit a given issue (thematically, financially, physically). Other times, it just didn't resonate with an editor enough, but might make another one instantly buy it.

- I remember a story about some big name author (wish I recalled who it was) who changed their name and submitted the stories just to get rejected by all the places where they usually published under their real name. 😂

- Exactly! Same thing here.
- ICYMI! This was a nice chat!
- I had the honor of talking with @mynachang.bsky.social in her MicroVerse series about my new novella and some other things! 💫 Check it out!

- Same here! Personal feedback might be useful for beginning writers, but down the road it feels off. I already received a personal rejection pointing flaws (which were just opinions, tbh) for a reprint that had already been published in a pro-paying market 😅

- Wow!!! 70! Glad it found a home.

- Wonderful to share this TOC with you, Ana!
- I decided that my next novel will be called The Worldbuilding Bodybuilder and the Bodybuilding Worldbuilder, about a romantic relationship between a bodybuilder that fell into a Tolkien-like frenzy to invent a fictional world and a writer who goes to the same gym. (It's a lie)
- And speaking of interviews, I have a mini-interview out with Space Cowboyes, where I talked about my novella and what I found most interesting to write!

- Oooh, thank you so much, Marie!!! Glad you enjoyed! It was a honor answering those questions for Myna.

- Author Q&A with Renan Bernardo today, with insight on his new novella, DISGRACED RETURN OF THE KAP'S NEEDLE! @renanbernardo.com
- "Pause! Before you scroll further, quote this with at least one book you're looking forward to in the rest of this year." There are several, but I'll mention @lyndseycroal.bsky.social's collection!

- Absolutely thrilled to share the cover to next year's short story collection coming out from @tordotcom.bsky.social! I'm obsessed with it! Comes out March 24, 2026, but you can pre-order it now wherever you like getting your books! Here's Macmillan's link. us.macmillan.com/books/978125...
- Beautiful!! Congratulations!
- I didn't use any comps in the marketing of Kap's Needle, but I'm telling you right now that it's kind of Battlestar Galactica meets Ancillary Justice.
- I really considered the investment of going to Worldcon this year, but gave up because it would end up being too expensive. Trump's election sealed that decision for me. But now this… I'm sorry about folks changing their plans. I am frustrated. Can't imagine those who have planned the trip.
- My new Genre Grapevine on the fallout from the Seattle Worldcon generative AI debacle is now up. This was a stupid move on Worldcon's part and I hope they can get their shit together. www.patreon.com/posts/128296...
- Too late for me to cancel, but I will still try to have fun during the event.
- Of course! I hope it's a great con despite the setbacks, and this year's Hugos are filled with great and talented people!
- One cool thing about writing is finding a way to describe the main character in the early pages of your story without resorting to clichès (like mirrors; though sometimes a mirror will do just fine). What's the coolest, most original way you described a MC in a story?

- Mentioning a beard so far into the story is really not a good idea 😅

- I love this one! Didn't recall he wasn't described.

- But sometimes we don't need descriptions. I had a pretty vivid mental image of Connie!

- Eu também não descrevo muito quando a história é curta ou quando vejo que não tem tanta relevância pra história! É ótima ideia essa da magia de disfarce.

- Caramba! Adorei a ideia! (me lembrei da Zoraide lendo borra de café)

- Interesting fact: did you know that every website on the internet is managed by a spider? They're often called webmasters and are responsible for exterminating bugs.

- You're welcome! Always good to know fellow writers' methods!

- Exactly! I know of in-depth, heavy outliners (like Brandon Sanderson) who almost write a book worth of an outline 😂 But I just have to feel where it goes and then adjust from there.
- I'm glad I made progress on a story today. (Opened the file, stared at the page for a long while, found an extra space, deleted it.)

- I'm not much detailed! Often, the beginning is far more detailed and I'm only able to detail the middle and ending after I start writing, since many things start taking shape (or changing) only later. I try not to stress over it as long as I have a basic notion of what will happen.
