- Reposted by Reilly WoodYou know how cartoon characters get dollar signs in their eyes when they see a big pile of money? Academics are like that, but with “.pdf” signs in their eyes when they get a result that will make a great research paper

- I spend half my life in the terminal and sometimes Linux is too much even for me I just want a simple GUI for viewing+editing apt sources, why is this not a thing
- Reposted by Reilly WoodI think the appeal of the screenshot is very related to the appeal of the PDF: both are compelling exactly _because_ they are not computational or dynamic, they represent a different 'state of matter' that guarantees a certain stability and transparency for their contents
- What are people doing to test/eval their agentic applications? Testing gets harder when 1) you don't know ahead of time which parameters an agent will run a tool with 2) tools are provided by an MCP server

- Really good post that helps get people to the "whoa, it's that easy to build a code editing agent 💡" moment but IMO people should be thinking about this in terms of other tools+tasks too ampcode.com/how-to-build...

- feeling pretty good as a wordcel-ish programmer these days written communication skills have always been important, but they are especially valuable now that "write a concise+precise description of what you want" is such a common thing to do

- hmmm, gpt-4.1-mini is a fair bit more expensive than gpt-4o-mini. which means gpt-4.1-nano is cheap but not quite as cheap as I'd assumed from a skim of today's press release openai.com/index/gpt-4-1/
- was chatting with some UX people, and wow the frontend/backend divide is firmly entrenched in their minds. was a little hard to explain that I usually work on a secret third type of programming

- Praying for Waveshare to stock this 12" Raspberry Pi-compatible e-ink display again... the alternative seems to be to build (print?) my own enclosure for one of their other displays www.waveshare.com/product/disp...
- Finally gave in and paid for a year of Cursor. The autocomplete is *way* better than Copilot in VS Code. And as much as I like Aider, Cursor has a lot of nice UX features that can't really be done in a terminal
- constantly thinking about this banger by @elizas.website
- I’ve been using Sonophone on iOS to control my Sonos speakers, and it’s good software. Has a dated UI but it actually works reliably (unlike the Sonos app since May last year)
