- Welp unfortunately the star-shaped daith rings are not going to work out, the shape makes the piercing not function as acupressure for migraine prevention anymore. They look cool but I got the piercing for migraine relief, not just aesthetics, and that’s a non-negotiable benefit of it!

View full threadIt’s a common piercing for body-mod enthusiasts, so I’m not surprised that someone figured out it seems to help. But migraines in general are really poorly understood in medicine as far as what causes them and how to treat them. Probably a cluster diagnosis, it’s not straightforward.
- As a body mod enthusiast myself, I love that the “daith piercings help with migraines” thing has become well-known enough to contribute to breaking down the stigma against visible body mods.
- Today the barometric pressure is going wacky again and that’s always a migraine trigger, I started feeling the early nausea and such and… can’t wrangle the star ring to apply pressure correctly. But odds are good I got an ibuprofen & caffeine in me fast enough to not develop a full migraine anyway.
- Unfortunately I am at work and won’t be able to change my metal until I get home this evening, but it’s not like it’s actively *causing* problems. Just not working to prevent problems that would occur without anything there.
- There’s no real science on why it works for so many people and it IS a YMMV intervention, but the theory that it functions as permanent acupressure and tames misfiring on the nerve that runs beneath that area seems likely.
- It didn’t totally cure my migraines but it did give me a decrease to about 1/3 to 1/4th of the previous frequency and severity, plus when I do start getting one, sometimes using the ring for leverage to apply additional pressure makes it clear up.

- It is neat! Honestly when I first got them I thought I wasn’t gonna like the aesthetics, but figured I could just wear a retainer if I hated it too much but it helped, it ended up being an aesthetic I really like though.
- (Will explain why so that they can make their own choices with info! If they also got the piercing therapeutically then I also have a pal who recently got a septum piercing too who might want it)
- And I’ll just have to get the regular shaped rings with stars on them for the star theme set I’ve been working on putting together, instead.
- Ninja is absolutely fine! The lump is a small wart, and her eyes are a little hazy but in the normal way for a cat of nearly sixteen. Her blood pressure and weight are good, and the very lovely vet has taken some bloods for a general check.
- Glad to hear she’s ok and just aging normally! My sister’s kitty recently went in for a check on a bump and was diagnosed with a skin tag, always good news when kitty is fine!
