- Reading @mikejay.bsky.social's "Mescaline" (2019) and "Psychonauts" (2023) back-to-back—this quote by Jacques-Joseph Moreau from 1845 in Psychonauts stands out. In other words, #iykyk. It's gratifying, in a way, that people have been saying this for at least 180 years, but also very frustrating.

- Thought-provoking question on r/RationalPsychonaut based on an excerpt from @samwoolfe.bsky.socialʻs book Altered Perspectives: "Would widespread psychedelic use improve society?" Definitely some thoughtful responses, too. #psychedelics www.reddit.com/r/RationalPs...

- "Halperin argues that UFOs emerge from the gap between 'stimulus and perception.' Real physical phenomena—stars, planes, weather balloons, drones—trigger transcendent visions as they are filtered through a complex interplay of cultural archetypes and personal psychology."
- I'd be interested in reading Singh's book, from which this excerpt in @theguardian.com was taken, when it's published later this month. There's pretty clear archaeological evidence for some forms of #psychedelic shamanism going back millennia, while Clottes and Lewis-Williams... ⬇️ 1/6

- Anyone know if Michaux’s essay “La Psilocybine (Expériences et autocritique)” has ever been translated into English? I don’t think it has. May try to translate it myself, if not. #HenriMichaux

- Brief interview with Aldous Huxley about #mescaline and #psychedelics from 1961, about two years before his death. One thing I find really remarkable about Huxley, in any interview I've listened to, is how nonchalant he is about the experience. ⬇️ 1/2
- Love it when I open a document to see my cat has left a helpful comment. Thanks, buddy. 😹
- This is a good question. The authors here are focused more on #LSD, which I have less experience with (it's too zippy and it lasts too long for my tastes), but in my experience with #psilocybin the answer is yes and no. 🧵 1/5 doi.org/10.1007/s002...

- "At Senscapes, the art and science venture I co-founded, you can experience what it’s like to be in an altered state of consciousness." Mmmm...this may be what some kind of altered consciousness is like, but, imo, it's not what a #psychedelic experience is like. 🧵 1/7 psyche.co/ideas/immers...
