A thing that stands out to me about the "what's wrong with young men" discourse is that no one wants to deal with the fact that warrior dressup is really popular with the men we're talking about
Rome, Sparta, Viking, or "tacticool", an integral part of the pitch is they will get to a "warrior"
And it's an aesthetic, not a historical recreation
(My brother, on the historical recreation side of things, is down to *brawl* when these dudes show up with romantic ideas about the Vikings in particular, and is very much on team, "it sucked to fight for Rome.)
Rather like a lot of kooky right wing ideas, "these guy think being in a kóryos would fix them" is such a kooky idea that people just sort of paddle around it, but it's absolutely central to the whole broken enterprise
May 7, 2025 16:57“They think violence is a solution and not a personal and social problem” is an overlooked aspect precisely because it’s so obvious. People don’t want to talk about the obvious, they want something sensational, easy to fix. Which makes them easy to convince these guys deserve benefit of the doubt.
