- Despair is not a strategy.
- 🤯 How prepared is Belgium should Putin & Co decide to send a shower of missiles and drones over a juicy target like Brussels (NATO HQ and EU institutions) ? Well, no air Defense, no bunker. Nada, niks. Rien. A few old F16... That's it. Goeie bestuur / bonne gouvernance ?
- And they also decommissioned the entire network of alert sirens.
- We'll just have to YELL REALLY LOUD
- 🇧🇪 is searching to get economic return, innovation and employment in the defence or dual purpose industry ... think NICHES, like developing Audio Enclave secure communication systems. 1/

View full threadNo. Territorial air defence is a national responsibility. BEL decommissioned its entire Ground Based Air Defence (GBAD) capability (in the 1990s). This was replaced by nothing. There are no foreign GBAD on BEL soil. According to 🇧🇪 govt statement: EU & NATO infra is "not protected".
- That is badshit crazy!! And the european partners were ok with it ?
- no 'intell' required. The official governmental communication is clear. 1. 🇧🇪 has ZERO Air Defence Assets. VADS, Mistral, Gepard, Hawk, Nike-Hercules, .. have all been decommissioned, and replaced by NOTHING. 2. Regie der Gebouwen (govt real estate agency): ZERO public shelter places in 🇧🇪
- Thanks for your insights. If I understand correctly, Belgium decommissioned all these systems because NATO has been taking over the task of protecting our air space and land. So technically, Brussels institutions are protected by NATO (meaning the USA) ?
- Hi @romboutluc.bsky.social As a citizen, I'm wondering how prepared Belgium is should Putin & Co decide to send a shower of missiles and drones over a juicy target like Brussels (HQ of NATO and EU institutions. Apart from our F16, do we actually have some DCA in place ? Do you have intel on this?
- (I'm really frustrated that none of our governments(!) communicate more about our preparation for an upcoming high intensity war–or lack thereof.)
