Hasn't this just been the story of the tech industry over the last few years? Over the top claims about its "innovations" that the media parrots thoughtlessly.

it's jolting how little AI skepticism has reached the general public. i've had many acquaintances ask whether i use AI for research and seem shocked when i tell them it's completely useless for that purpose. my wife recently told her colleagues about hallucinations and it was news to all of them.
I firmly believe that a lot of people 1)really need to chill the fuck out and 2) get a hobby.

I don’t think you’re stupid or evil if you found some of the excesses of ‘wokeness’ annoying or otherwise bad in some way, I think plenty of reasonable people did at one time or another. But you 100% are at least one of those things if your reaction to that was “time to work with republicans!”
So much of our discourse nowadays (and not just in rags like the Free Press) is just making stuff up. I honestly don't think it was always like this.
So much one could say. Much of the modern right was born in backlash to the Civil Rights Movement. We now have the private racist comments of Nixon and Reagan.

i am currently reading jacob heilbrunn’s great book on the American right’s love affair with foreign dictators, and one thing that is very apparent is that these people have always celebrated racism. no backlash required.
We finally have a lean federal government that does nothing except funneling money to the president and litigating his personal grievances
