- While on the subject, I was just wishing my 42yo (today) colleague a happy birthday by making the obligatory HHGTTG reference and she looked at me completely blankly.

- My Mum only recently stopped answering the phone by brightly announcing the number (minus the dialling code). Apparently in her youth, phone numbers were all “place name, 4 digits”. Though thinking about it, I don’t ever ring her landline, so maybe she still does!
- Jane I’m not *that* much older than you and it was definitely “place name + 4 digits” when I was a teen
- Oh dear, that makes me think of the days of typed memos and when emails started... Similar vibe .
- I kind of relish being an antique curiosity to my kids. My parents seemed impossibly ancient to me as a child, but the 1930s and 1940s were less alien to children of the 60s and 70s than the 70s and 80s are to a child of the 2010s, at least in terms of technology.
- Ah ok, hadn't realised. I'm not sure how that diss is supposed to work. Most people couldn't type at all in the 1900s. Those that could were very careful.
- Well I guess the kids are now using “the 1900s” to refer to anything before 1 Jan 2000. 💀
- Context?
