Gildy Stern
April is the cruellest month
Clinging on desperately to something that once felt like hope
Counting down the years to getting that triple locked benefit
Old films,Football and Beer keep me sane (ish)
80s London/05 Lucerne my happy places
- Reposted by Gildy SternA handy reminder
- Reposted by Gildy SternIt's to distract from Badenoch's PMQ question yesterday about a company that closed down while she was in government
- The current spell of good weather will help hospitality, if our local cafés are any guide..very busy yesterday, unusual for a Wednesday... fingers crossed for the economy.

- I know nowt, except the history of Labour Governments and to my mind, this is a certainty. '31,'67,'76 take your pick .. unfortunately Farage awaits not Baldwin, Heath or Thatcher.

- Reposted by Gildy Stern“Have the Tory head office fired their research department?’ @natashaclark.bsky.social urges Kemi Badenoch to ‘read more than just The Telegraph’ after her latest gaffe at PMQs.
- Is that hope I'm feeling....I'd better have a drink 🍻
- It's obvious from the last few days that people read a hell of a lot of 'stuff' that makes them very angry. You mostly know what the stance of the journalist/writer is going to be, don't read it, save your blood pressure, make your own mind up.
- This is good, especially regarding people's perception of Sunak during the election campaign, which I think says a lot (not good) about contemporary Britain
- Reposted by Gildy Sternthis is what gives journalism an imperfect reputation 1) headline claims one thing 2) paragraph 8 admits that the headline could be either true or untrue
- Labour's strategy at the next GE is going to be, - things are improving - we did what we said we'd do - there were some difficult choices along the way - it's us or Nigel - don't waste your vote on a lost cause. It may not work as the press and pollsters want Farage as PM, but it's a thing

- We got a mailshot off the General Secretary last night telling us how important we are and NOT asking for money, so I assume lots of members complained about 'that speech'. Conference is going to be wild this year... can't wait.
- Reposted by Gildy SternSometimes when everyone’s being hysterical over not a lot you need to look at the stories getting no visibility. The Covid Inquiry yesterday declared 180,000 Brits died because Johnson and Hancock ignored expert advice. 180,000 people.
- Reposted by Gildy Sternextraordinary that Thames Water executives are getting *new* bonuses, this time as a result of the £3bn rescue loan from the spring - which loads the company with interest rates of nearly 10% via me and Gill Plimmer www.ft.com/content/1f6d...
- On a separate, but slightly related topic, I keep scouring the Right wing rags for the exhaustive list of Private schools that are closing permanently, as a result of Reeves' disgraceful raid on desperate 100k a year earners, who only want the best for their sprogs. I seem to be unable to find it.
- This is good. I've never understood about the 'liberal' stance, how come we're happy to turn a blind eye to the pay and working conditions of migrants doing the jobs 'we' won't do? Now 'we' are required to do those jobs the pay 'must' be raised 'substantially', why wasn't that the case 2 days ago?
- Reposted by Gildy SternSo apparently 22 (so far) elected Reform councillors aren’t taking up their roles. For one reason or another. That’s close to £250k of costs to run an election to replace them. They should be made to bear this cost personally.
- Reposted by Gildy SternThey deserve better. And honestly the British public deserves better than to be constantly lied to by a political class which attacks immigration and then makes damn sure it continues because the economic consequences of the alternative would be disastrous.
- Utd and Spurs are currently 16th and 17th in the league. Both managers should be totally embarrassed about the way they've managed this season and if either was honourable, they'd resign, but ridiculously, one of these pathetic teams will be in the Champions League next season. #gofigure

- Reposted by Gildy SternWell it's a good job we did Brexit isn't it otherwise how would we have lanced the populist boil?
- According to this, Truss was an ardent 'Free trader'. How does she square this with her support for 'Tariff Trump' ? Perhaps someone could ask her next time she does a press conference.

- Reposted by Gildy SternI see your purity on not dealing with US bullies and their destructive effect, and I see the UK car industry and a deal where we got more than the bully, and on balance I'll take the latter for the moment
