- NEW: A judge has ruled that Rikers must appoint an independent manager. This is a crucial step toward ending the abuse + violence at one of the deadliest jails in the country. But decarceration + permanent closure must remain the ultimate goal. NYC must close Rikers once + for all. Our statement:
- Due process is constitutional and non-negotiable.
- “There should not be an advantage, no matter how small or large, provided to a particular party over the other,” says Nora Ahmed, one of Mahmoud's lawyers. “Because that starts to infect the proceedings themselves and the notion of fundamental fairness that we all uphold in courtroom proceedings.”
- "I am absent not out of apathy, but conviction:” 2 months ago, ICE tore Mahmoud from his home and his then-pregnant wife. He has been in immigration detention in Louisiana ever since - unable to witness the birth of his first child. Read the letter he wrote to his son, welcoming him to the world:

- Last night, security officers at Columbia pushed and shoved multiple student protesters to the ground. Then, at a protest outside campus, an NYPD officer was recorded punching a protester in the face, and another officer was seen shoving dozens of demonstrators. This is outrageous and unacceptable.
