- Reposted by Noam RossIn Pope Safety Engineering, the TIC is an inverse of MTBP (Mean Time Between Popes) the standard measure of Papal Infallibility. Continuous-time models are the expected value of a PDF (Pope Density Function). Simplified models may add a Mitre parameter, λ, to express a constant pope failure rate.

- Thanks to all the panelists, facilitators, and participants who helped make this event a success. (Especially the @openscapes.bsky.social team!) In a grim time, I was heartened by the advice, wisdom, positive energy, and mutual support everyone had to share.
- 📣 Current and former #USgov data scientists! Join @ropensci.org + @openscapes.bsky.social on May 6 for a community support and networking event: ropensci.org/events/datas... Co-hosted by former feds (NOAA, NASA, DOE, NSF, NIH + Federal Reserve) to discuss their paths to other sectors. #dataBS
- This is a great update on the state of tools for web maps.

- Reposted by Noam RossAs the parent of a child born w a congenital heart defect who was awed daily by what I saw doctors do during ~100 days spent in a NICU, there are not words for blinding searing RAGE I feel seeing this. The is a level of cruelty that transcends “the cruelty is the point.”
- Reposted by Noam RossThe call for placebo-controlled trials of every change made to every vaccine is a call for unnecessary suffering and death. They reject the evidence. I reject their demands.
- Reposted by Noam RossRecently, all the AAAS Science & Tech Policy Fellows at EPA were terminated from our positions with little notice and for no clear reason. This effectively ended a partnership that had been going since 1980 and which had brought hundreds of scientists to the EPA as fellows, many of whom stayed. 1/7
- Reposted by Noam RossPowerful graphic. In a single day on April 25, a DOGE-fueled NSF canceled 340,226 future days of research. Or 932 years. [And that’s just one of three rounds of terminations so far.]
- For #TidyTuesday this week, we're looking at data on terminations of NSF grants 📊 🎨 Using colour to highlight one category 📈 Transparency to highlight the important data ✍️ Annotations instead of a legend for transparency #RStats #ggplot2 #DataViz
- Reposted by Noam RossRage coding this morning using #TidyTuesday NSF grant terminations data. Research in STEM Education and Social, Behavioral, & Economic Science is clearly being targeted by the current administration. I made a lot of depressing #rstats plots, check them out jenrichmond.github.io/posts/2025-0...
- Reposted by Noam Ross#TidyTuesday 1000+ grants of scientific research from the NIH and NSF were terminated under the current Trump admin. I compared their abstract against that list of 350+ banned words from federal sites and docs, with incendiary terms like "peanut allergies", "women" and "water quality". #rstats
