Smith failed to mention that oil production is at record highs in Alberta, but did imply federal policies are killing Albertans and their families. God, it was disingenuous. All separatists are, by definition, traitors to their country.

The problem with talk about secession even if the chance is minuscule is that it stirs up in people that feel slighted in any manner all their fears and resentments they have a focus for their anger to feed off of. Secessionists are traitors, rather than discussion they want destruction.
