- Not disagreeing with Jared. But have another way of getting at smith’s motives. Here are the options: 1. She knows that separation is folly but doesn’t want to be the one to tell her party that. She wants to be in charge but not to lead (that’s what led Cameron to the Brexit referendum). 1/
- I'm often asked: What motivates Danielle Smith to do the radical things she does? After all, many of her actions fly in the face of public opinion, the constitution, conservative ideology, and her own public commitments. I used to equivocate. I'm about ready to call it.🧵
- 2. She actually thinks that separation is a good idea but she doesn’t want to be the one tell the other elements in her party (and the province that). Same desire to be premier but not to lead. 3. She’s agnostic about separation and just wants us all to have a good, deep debate about it. 2/
- #3 is almost the most foolish of the three options. A High stakes referendum campaign is the WoRST way to think something through. Again, though, it’s a refusal to lead while still wanting to be in charge.
