Bessent is as useless as his boss on explaining the reality of tariffs. Err, err, err, err, err. Like morse code! Worse than Boris Johnson answering questions about the parties he attended during the pandemic lockdown.

To be clear the importer is met at customs with a Tariff bill & must pay it to bring the goods onto US soil. Then they tack the cost onto the product and charge the first buyer the original cost + tariff. So the retail consumer ends up paying it.

I’m small business owner and had to explain how Trump import taxes work … to an educated MAGA. They have zero common sense. I’ve paid EU import taxes for years - 10% of the cost of what I buy. Business owners always add this to retail price. Europe does NOT pay for US import taxes - consumers pay.
