I get the motivation, I just genuinely have no idea how you could build a workable, nevermind constitutional, law to actually do it
Its only americans that seems to be obsessed with an absolute free speech and right to bear arms. Still, you are on the verge of loosing your democracy. Perhaps, some restrictions to politicians, networks or tech to lie constantly or push disinfo or corps to buy your election would have helped.
I mean this entirely seriously: I have no big problem with non-US countries thinking about how to do social media regulation in their own jurisdictions. It's not an easy task, even if you don't come at it from a 1A perspective
Its definitively not straightforward and not easy and we have free speech in Norwa, just not absolute.I have never felt that im not able to express myself, you just cant go around spreading lies about people, corps and politicians,do hate speech or threats without getting some trouble.
Granted, this is Canada, not Norway, but do you consider the posts described here as "threats" or "hate speech"?
Would it matter in your opinion if the person arrested was pro-Israeli, making the same criticisms of a pro-Palestinean commenter?
Feb 23, 2025 16:32No, it doesnt matter if you are pro-palestinian or pro-Israeli. You should follow the same rules and norms. Our social structure relies on equivality for all. I dont think we would consider most of these posts as real threats or hate speech - but again we have a judiciary that are not partisan.
